Gearheads. Need some advice on mechanics' toolkit

So I need a toolkit for wrenching on my motorcycle. I dont want to break the bank, so if you have a particualr brand or kit/set you can recommend that would be great. I wuld like have at least 80+ items at my disposal.

    Thnx in advance.

Dont get anything metric, only standard.

They dont use metric on motorcycles anymore.

      Forget the dodgy?

carbon are you wanting to carry these tools on the motorcycle itself? also it would help if we knew what you had. What I kept on my CBR was completely different than what my dad kept on his goldwing.

Ive actually had a lot of problems with my craftsman tools and they like to make you jump through hoops to get them fixed with warranty work. Most of my friends have had problems with them too.

I just want this stuff gone, super low prices

              Good tools; low Price

Pawn shop snap-ons. Cheap and lifetime warranty. Only problem is if you dont have a local dealer. Second to that is craftsman in my book. Only problem I have had with craftsman is that when you need warranty or replacement on an item, you have to find a descent sized store that has the item in stock. Around where I'm at there are a lot of little stores that don't stock many items. But... they can order it for you. You can find both of these brands at a pawn shop reasonably cheap if you look hard enough. Another point of view.... Snap-On resale value is much better that craftsman majority of the time.

I have used craftsman tools for years and other than loss have only had to have one ratchet replaced. I should have been using a 1/2" wrench instead of the 3/8" and stripped the gear.

the local sears is really good about having tools in stock. they dont give me the run around on the warranty. all i gotta do is go in with the broken tool in my hand and hell pull one off the shelf and give it to me and im on my way. he takes the tag off though, i suspect to ring it up as a replacement.

ive only ever broken 2 tools. one my bro was using at work, one of those universal joints that allow you to hold the ratchet in any angle, i guess he was wrenching too hard and snapped it. replaced it on the way back home.

i also borke a 1/4 ratchet but i hardly use that one anymore, and i always forget to grab it if i go to sears.

Personally Craftsman is great for its price. I got there 88 piece set and it has worked great for my truck repairs and also my work trucks and Mowers. You can find deals under a 100 bucks especially after Christmas. The only problem I've have with Craftsman's hand tools is when I did something stupid (Was lazy and used a ratchet with air gun to take off a set of leafs off a truck).

Even if craftmans old tool (before warranty program) they still warranty it.

#1craftsman ... since you mentioned price

#2NAPA ... i had a set and it was great quality. Nice and polished and had decent weight to them they are my favorite ... the whole set was stolen out of my car not too long ago ... but they aren't very cheap ...

i've since purchased a small craftsman set from a pawn shop for 10.00 for a 50.00 set of tools ... buy used if you can...

I have never been let down by Craftsman. Most of my tools are craftsman and I have returned plenty without issue.

They are not the best quality in the world, but you have to pay serious money to get quality (Snap-on, MAC, etc).

                            So, my suggestion, craftsman.

Also, don't bother buying one of those kits that come in the nice molded box. They usually cost more and you eventually scrap the molded box and just buy a real tool box / tool chest. Problem with the molded kits is that as soon as you buy a tool that is not part of the set, you have no place for it.

Unless you are doing serious every day wrenching Craftsman is good enough. Assuming you have a good Sears store accessible in your area.
