When i make all of mine i just use a simple lantern sparker( you can buy them at walmart/any camping store) just drill a hole, glue it in and it will make a pretty decent spark.. hasn't failed me yet.Comment

YUP! done that too... I really like those, tho never seems like the flints last long enough.Originally posted by oneworldWhen i make all of mine i just use a simple lantern sparker( you can buy them at walmart/any camping store) just drill a hole, glue it in and it will make a pretty decent spark.. hasn't failed me yet.
But HPA potato guns are really fun too... the first one I ever made was a HPA one that ran off a shop air compressor... there was some PVC pipe that just happened to be the right ID for these things called paintballs I would find in the desert. Thus I made my first paintball gun and that is what started me on the whole paintball trip about 8-9 years ago.
It was about 16 inches of 3/4 pvc with a ball valve and a tire stem... that would go to the 1/2 inch that fit the paintballs. I would pump it up to about 160psi and off they went. I think back on it and those things must have been doing well over 400fps.
Propane just burns clean, and it explodes really loud with fire... hard to beat that.

I third this... they make HUGE sparks opposed to the hit-and-miss spark that the bbq igniters make.. but the flint does run out after a while. I believe they come with a few refills and are only a few bucks.. I drilled a hole in my end cap and just put mine there.. seemed like the best placeOriginally posted by oneworldWhen i make all of mine i just use a simple lantern sparker( you can buy them at walmart/any camping store) just drill a hole, glue it in and it will make a pretty decent spark.. hasn't failed me yet.Comment

If you're just gonna make a simple combustion one, I'd suggest quickstart. In the winter it gets to ~ -30c around here, and boy, do those spuds go far! I'm still trying to nail my friend's cottage across the lake
