If you enjoy the outdoors. Natl Forests. Read this.

This pertains largely to Calafornia, however it will soon move to most and if not every national forest. Please read this guys

THIS IS STILL A WORK IN PROGRESS!!! I just wanted to get it up on the board ASAP. There are many things and defintions that still need to be added, I am sure Randii, Rick and John will want to change things. Please feel free to add to this or e-mail me so I can edit this post. I want and need...

    Massive forest road/campsite closures!

We need to speak up guys!

This has been in the works since the mid 90's. The large majority of "trails and roads" are old logging roads that have contributted to a lot of erosion. Most of the fire roads should remain open. The goal is to restore the fauna back to better sustain the environment.

Still, it will limit access to most of the cool places.

Contrary to what "tread lightly" and many other groups would like to promote many people running off road vehicles do substantial damage to the roads, the trails, and the land around them.

As has been pointed out, they will still be accessible, just not while sitting in a seat.

                That is 100% false.

Sure, there are folks out there that do not care. Sure there are bad apples of the bunch, but there are many more responsible wheelers out there.

And the environment is not as sensitive as people make it out to be. There are quite a few places in PA where 100 years ago a thriving town of a few hundred people once stood. Looking at it today, you would never know it. The earth has an amazing way of healing it's self. I would be more worried about the vast amounts of land that they are building shopping malls on.

The things you do have to worry about are pollution, trash and endangered species. A plastic bottle thrown on the ground will be there 50+ years from now. Leaking auto fluid into a stream will kill the plan and animal life. These are the things that wheelers need to keep in mind.

As for those saying strap on a pair of boots. That is fine and dandy it you have 3 weeks to hike to a given spot. I am a very avid outdoorsman (hiking, biking, kayaking, etc). There are places I have seen in my 4x4 that I would have never been able to see on foot.

What upset me is that many states are closing trails to the full sized vehicles, but open more for ATV. You want to talk about tearing up the land? ATV's and dirt bikes are the worst.

While not disagreeing that there are many responsible people in the 4WD community I would disagree that I am 100% wrong. There are many (maybe not most) who do not "tread lightly". I will agree with you that ATVs (include dirt bikes, etc.) are a major problem as well

Then again, it could very well be a regional thing.

We were discussing if there might be a reason for closing roads and trails rather then just doing the knee jerk reaction "I don't like it so it must be wrong" thing.

It was more directed towards other people than you Lohman. No offense meant.

Next we need to start the closing of the beaches, lakes, rivers, streams, city parks, open fields, etc.

We need to reduce the population by any means possible.

Oh, wrong website. Thought I was on the official Earth First site.

Have any of you really looked into what some of the tree hugger groups belive?

This should give you an idea:
