    Apple iPhone

Am I nuts or did the lady on the news just say the 4gb is off the market, and the 8gb is now $399?

She said apple wants to sell 1Million of them by the end of the month.

    Who has one? Like it?

Oh man, the new iPods are so awesome. $350 for 160g is actually a pretty decent price too. I actually want to sell my old nano and buy a new classic. (New classic...oxy moron, right?)

              HTC Touch

HTC has some really cool phones out now too.
Most will work on the T-Mobile network.
The T-Mobile Dash is the one I have, love it.
              Its made by HTC.
The HTC Touch is very similar to the Iphone except it doesnt

Hm. I think the new iPod is probably the first Apple product that is even worth considering buying...

SOB,I knew it. As soon as I bought a new ipod they reliease a nicer one for near the same price...

I knew this crap would happen..

Also Apple is offering a 100 dollar store credit to those who bought the iphone at it's higher price.

The new ipod is like an iphone minus camera, phone, and bluetooth features..also I believe it just has WiFi..maybe not..but from what i've read WiFi isn't worth it outside of your own home.

Speaking from experience as a PDA user for many years w/ WIFI ... yes it isn't really worth it outside your home. Hotspots or no. You just can't count on them when you need the access. All a WIFI-only PDA is good for is showing off at coffeeshops.

The iPod Touch is basically a crappily specced PDA, it makes no sense to people who know much about the handheld market but is meant to appeal to those who don't.

Integrating a cellular radio with a PDA is perhaps the single most important advancement ever for handhelds. PDAs have been downspecced to have cellular radios installed in them in most modern PDA phones, but the tradeoff is seen as very worth it. To downspec from a PDA phone for a standalone PDA is moronic.

But no one ever accused Apple fanboys of being very discerning in that manner.

Again, *speaking from experience*, no, it is not. Most hotspots require purchases or outright charge for service, and you will have to deal with registering, entering codes, etc. McDonald's hotspots are not free for the most part.

I can tell you firsthand that most of the time you'd only bother doing any of that if you're doing work on a laptop. Internet access on a PDA is for spur of the moment things, looking up what movies are playing, a phone number for a place you don't have offhand, settling bar bets on wikipedia. You need instant, pre-configured access for this. Wifi does not provide that.
