Actually there is a FAR better chance that the Earth gets swallowed up by a black hole in the next 1000 years than us getting blown away by the Sun turning into a supernova. I forget just how many black holes there are in our milkyway galaxy. I was watching discovery channel and they said that we are headed back to the more 'crowded' part of our solar system. That means that things will be propelled to us by gravitational pull. Also Jupiter has been shielding us from asteriods and such. If jupiter was ever thrown away or out of orbit we would be dead in no time.

Also one thing that i don't understand, I believe its born again christians in general but I could be mistaken, are those that can't wait for life to end just to get to heaven. I mean, we were given the 'gift' of life were we not? I for one cherish being alive. I'm sure that if there is heaven it will be 100 times better but still I love my life. It is foolish to pray for or hope for death or even look forward to it. It will come to us all one day so why not enjoy what we have now while we have it?

I was just thinking about this, What if there was another planet out there with humans on it. I wonder if they live forever and there enconomy sucks? What if they found a new liveable planet out there and they are going to start sending people into space to live like the movie Gattaca?

Did you know that in 10 years our first radio transmitions, circa 1957 or around, will be hitting the outer rings of our milky way solar system? Those are just the very first transmitions. That means IF there is life out there and they are on the same intellect level as we are, we won't be hearing from them for another 50+ years or so. Unless they or we come up with a better technology.

I'm not scared of death and I'll welcome it with open arms...but I ain't gonna bring it to me.

Please, I'm not here to start a religious argument so don't make it one. Major and Beam, exactly how do you know that your religious beliefs are correct? Yeah, sure, the guy that died for 3 days...he could've been in a subconcious dream state, or maybe he just made something up because he believed in his religion so blindly that he couldn't bear to have it be wrong.

The truth is that we don't know what religion is correct and we won't know in our lifetimes. Maybe we don't even have the right religion yet. So don't act like you know what's going to happen. The Muslims and the Jews and every person of every other religion "know" what's going to happen to them when they die too.

All the holy books, (Bible, Qur'an) are so full of contradictions that I don't even care about religion at this point.

I can tell you right now I'm not afraid of death.

I'm not exactly afraid of dying, either.
Those are two definatly separate things.

I'm afraid of how I'll get there

i felt like i should reply to this...i thought that it was sort of odd to find this thread on the site but since its here ill be a part of it.

i looked at all of the posts on this thread and to be honest it made my heart hurt. i cant imagine what it might feel like to have no idea what would happen to me after death. and to be totally honest there is no way that you can find contradictions in the Bible (you may think that they are because you are trying to find them but if you really read things and understand them then you will see that there are none) ignorance is not an excuse. and im not trying to upset anyone by saying this. im just speaking my heart. my faith in God and His Son Jesus Christ is the one thing that allows me to make it in this world. anyone who wants to talk to me about it or ask me questions can do so if they would like to. im not a genious (im not even sure that i spelled it right) but i will do my best to take the time to answer any questions that anyone has. i might not have the answers but i can find them with time.

Dude, I don't think so. They beat him with a whip 39 times (this wip had peices of bones, rocks, sticks, and metal in it, and they dipped it in goats blood so it stuck to the flesh and infected it, and it pulled huge chunks of skin off each time it was pulled, the guy who beat him was a big soldier guy too), then they drove huge nails into his hands and feet, punched him in the face over and over again, ripped out his beard in huge handfulls, beat a crown of thorns on his head(not regular thorns, they were liek 7inches long, and tough as like nails) until it went through his skull, they shoved a sword in his side. After this to breath he would have to move his body to breath, meaning he had to push up on the nail through his feet(EXTREMELY PAINFUL) and try to breath, which it hurt VERY badly to breath in the condition he was in. After 39 stripes he took from the whip people could not even tell if the person who went through this was human or not, THEIR INTESTINES WERE HANGING OUT EVEN! They had basically no skin left on their body where they were whipped, they would have to switch sides halfway through the whipping because there was not enough solid skin left for the whip to stick to. They tried to kill them whipping them so they would not have to walk up the via delerosa to where they would crucify them, meaning they would beat them as badly as they could, trying to kill them. Now I don't think he could have survived something like this. He hung on the cross for 3 hours before he died. This was how the Romans would crucify someone(well most of it, some of it was not the ordinary procedures, they persecuted him more than an average person). They did this to him with no fault being found in him. Pontus Pilate, the ruler of this area was supposed to give someone back to the people at the time of a Jewish festivle/feast that happened this time of year. He asked if they wanted to have Barabas(sp?) a known murderer who was found guilty, or Jesus, who he said he could find no fault in(even though the Jews came up with some fake stuff against him). The people said they wanted Barabas, and so Jesus had to go through this without having a real crime brought against him. I went kind of off track here, but he could not have been alive for three days like that, and when he was seen again he had his glorified body, he had skin and stuff, not like how he was left after the severe beating they put him through. And he went through all of that willingly, and on the cross when he would struggle to breath, going through severe pain just to breach he said such things as "Lord forgive them, for they no not what they do"! He prayed for the very people who were murdering him! He did this all to save us of our sins, so we could enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Well Ive went off track, but he could not have humanly survived that.

I myself was brought up in a religious family, but I've become a non-religious person. I haven't had any revelations, and I'm not going to be a religion just because someone tells me it's the right one. So as of now, I pretty much am on my own.

Over all, I'd like to think there is a heaven. That would be pretty cool, but, in reality, I think when we die, we are just dead. Our thoughts and ideas cease to exist. That's a scary thought though, and even though I think it to be true, I sure don't like it. Maybe that's just because I'm 14 though, and haven't really lived my life yet.

Yes, but I'm pretty sure the vinegar wasn't torture, I think it was supposed to have been to sooth his pain(or somin like that, I can't remember). He wasn't fed vinegar by his enemies, his Mother and some of his friends gave it to him. But yeah, I forgot the hanging in the sun...Oh, and they also threw a purple robe(thats what King's wore, and they were mocking him) over him after they beat him, then when the robe stuck to him(like a scab) they'd rip it off, causing him to bleed again, and they then put his own robe on him, and did the same thing again. But imagine hanging in the sun like that, nailed to a cross, barely recognizable as a human, your intestines hanging out, bleeding all over the place, basically rotting in the sun...And he did that willingly, for us...

                            yeah..

Just recently, I have been thinking about this...alot. And I wish that I could back to the day that the thought first entered my head about there being nothing after death. and let me tell you, IT SCARES THE **** OUTTA ME...sorry but it does. I do not want to die, at all. Ive read many studies and such about death and the scientific explanantion of death is when our cells can not produce enough protein to keep up wit the demands of our body. So we slowly degrade, our heart, lungs, every organ. And at the point before we die, the thoughts of seeing our life flash before our eyes and the white light and such are just the result of a fast process of oxygen leaving our brain and our neurons going crazy.

But I have also read accounts of people knowing whats going on in other rooms and such in near-death experiences. I REALLY, REALLY, want there to be something after death. Einstien(in reference to the Law of Conservation of Energy) said matter cannot be created or destroyed, so we just change enery forms. That can be either the energy decompisition takes or another form of consciousness.

Either way, death is a big Question Mark in everyone's books. If any of you have any accounts or other such things in the form of links or such...I would love to see them.

I actually would like ot have a near-death expereince, so that I can get a idea of how it will go down. LAter all, hope I helped any.

Actually I believe that the soldiers fed him vinegar soaked in sponges as a form of torture. Vinegar makes you so thirsty and bieng in the sun all day to top it off....they also dabbled his wounds with it.
