What to look for in a snowboard?

My friend said he would buy me a snowboard for my birthday. But since I've been snowboarding about twice, I don't really know what to look for.

    Any advice? I'm about 5'6", 175 lbs.

It depends on what kind of riding you want to do...

I persoanlly have not bought one yet, I go for a weekend a year so not really enough to justify it, but to me it is...main reason I didn't though is in the carolinas the riding conditions can be pretty crappy and with a rental board i dont have to worry about where i am riding..if theres a patch of grass I go right over it withot worrying about scratching it or hitting a rock..

I guess since your friend is buying you one, you might as well get one though...

But ye it depends on what you ride..go to a board shop they will help you.

Bingo. You can still strum if you only break one wrist.

i have actually picked up 2 sponsors for snowboarding this last year...i was riding a burton custom..guessing by your height you will want around a 151 ish in size.. bindings probably a size large..and the best thing to do is just stand on the deck..make sure its wide enough and feels right..some boards are just for park..some are just for powder.. and others are all around.just ask your local shop.. they will be more help than the forum probably.

              first board?

think about picking one up second hand, just to make sure you take to it.
