    Gusty Gibbon (Ubuntu 7.10)

Has anybody else tried it yet?

I LOVE IT!! Everything, even the wireless setup was a breeze, much improved from Edgy (6.10) Feisty (7.04). I love that visual effects packages are enabled be default (compiz). I especially liked how easy it was to set everything up. Between wireless (with a broadcom card no less--which is by far the biggest headache to deal with) and DVD play (Ubuntu cannot play "DVDs out of the box" for some reason. Certain libraries are not included that are needed to decode and play DVDs) it took me about 10 minutes or actual work to get everything working. It took me about 5 minutes to figure out how to get the DVD play libraries from medibuntu.

Overall I'd give it an A-. This is only because A) I am a tough grader and B) my wireless connectivity is not perfect, it only runs at about 1/2 the speed it should, but this is not really the fault of Ubuntu.

I do not mean to plug Ubuntu/Linux, but I really do like the new release.

Are you running 802.11b/g mixed mode? That will literally make 802.11g run at 1/2 speed. One of these days I'll get rid of that old powerbook with 802.11b only.

Yes I am, but to my understanding that is the only way it will work with my card. There is no linux driver available that is fully compatible to my knowledge. I am using a BCM43xx driver instead of the XP driver and NDISWrapper nonsense...

EDIT: I get full speed with same computer from my Vista Partition... so it is definitely a driver issue

tried feisty.. didnt get too far, installed 7.10 and am liking it a lot better. install my video drivers was a breeze... my only problem is I dont have any sound with it yet. It has to do with my on board audio being broken and me putting in an older sound card... I havnet put too much time into that.

the only other thing I have noticed so far is I can't adjust my screen resolution. I am new to the whole linux thing, so I am sure I can eventually figure that out.

That is odd... mine was adjustable right away. What video card are you using? Did you try posting on the ubuntu forums for help, or the wiki? That is what often saves me. How are you trying to adjust it?

hmmm... That is odd. Did you partition before the install, or using the live cd? I usually use gparted first. Did you make a linux-swap partition and a / partition? I figured you did, but just thought I'd ask. I did not make a swap my first try with Edgy... oops

its a low issue on my priorities list. school, work, then lexmark printer with ubuntu, sound then screen resolution.

I just havent had the time nor the desire to mess with the resolution much yet.
