    NASCAR driving is GREAT!

So my wife got me this driving experience for my wedding gift. I got to go take an official NASCAR stock car around the ATL Motor Speedway without an instructor in car. All I can say is that I have a HUGE appreciation for what these guys do on the track, its a lot more than 'driving in circles all day'. Taking those 40 degree banked bends at 125mph is rediculously exhilirating. I cannot wait to do this again. heres a quick vid on youtube my wife took of me there.

    I got to go fast!

Actually no, they weren't restricted. One guy in my class hit 181 mph. It was the Jaff Gordon Racing school if you want to look into it. And those are actual stock cars as seen in the Nextel cup races. Here's how it works...

You have a drafting instructor who has a seperate car in front of you who you are to follow their tracks. If you stay within 6 car lengths he goes a little faster every lap. If you fall to say 6-8 lengths he'll slow up to you and maintain your speed and assume you are comfy with that speed and you dont' want to go faster. Basically if you get on his *** he goes faster and there is no restrictions on the vehicles, of course the drafting instructors will not do anything crazy. I was good when I hit the 150s, in retrospect I wish I would have pushed a little faster but there's always next year

i'd have pushed it faster, i've hit 135 in my cutlass, and that has outdated suspension on it, it still had some gear left but was starting to float in the front end

Oh I will. I've hit 145 on the strip in a mustang before, but its different hiolding that speed for 1.5 miles around a track! I'm going to do it in Daytona next year but for more than 8 laps.

My mustang is limited to 117 but I held it for about 4 miles heading to IAO a few years back. Nelson can vouch for that

                  Got caught though

took me about a mile to get to 135.. 2.41 gears suck.

Hmmmmm, lived in Germany for 3 years, did 130mph to work every morning and home again. Rented an Alpha station wagon when the family came out and set cruise on 280kmh when on the Bahn...... Good times. Drove a friends Audi RS4, twin turbo and stupid fast. Then of course you can go to the motor cycle dealership and actaully "test ride" any motorcycle you want. When I say test ride I mean a 3 hour test ride, just bring it back filled up. Some pretty whicked speeds on the bikes over there. Fun
Due to the objections of a certain Canadian, this space is now for rent.

Thats pertty cool if they let you crank up those cars up to 180mph +

For a B-day persent, I got to do the Petty Racing Experience at Chicagoland. Same deal, fairly unrestricted cars w/ an instructor in front. Stay in the groove and on it, the instructor would speed up. They did limit the fastest laps you could run to about 135-137 avg.

To me, only the last lap or two was at the point I was driving the car hard enough into the corners to really feel it "hunker down" and grip the banking.

Not to say that wasn't fast, but I've race myself, and I wanted to go WAAAY faster.

Maybe I need to check out J. Gordon's racing deal.......
