    Video Camera Help

Well I recently went to Cancun and bought myself a JVC HDD camera because I didnt feel like messing with disk and changing out things. Its really nice but theres one problem and that is it records in .MOD. I did some searching and found out that you rename it to .MPG which is ok but now im having trouble with the ratio because I recorded in 16:9 and now its going back to 4:3. I tried using there software with no luck. (Freezes up/not user friendly) Seems that the quality goes down everytime i convert it or something so I was just wondering has anyone delt with this problem? Does anyone know of a good converter that wont destroy quality or does anyone have this camera and want to offer some tips on how to edited your video? Please help because this is getting stupid. I sort of wanted to make a nice video and give it to my parents as a Christmas gift sinces my mom asks how things are going with the video all the time.

SD video has a ratio of 4:3 so it could be recognizing it as that? I'm not sure, I happend to be reading my final cut book (yes at 6:30 a.m. ) and I read your post so...I thought I'd throw that out there..Are you sure the camera doesn't record in 4:3?

quality will go down if the codec used recompresses at a lower data rate

you most likely want a 500KPS encode at the 720x480 size of "standard" video
