Classic "style" rock never went away. It's just not mainstream anymore.

Check out the newer releases by ZZ Topp and Deep Purple as well as some of the newer start-ups like Queens of the Stone Age.

I think one of the big problems most classic rock fans have is that they limit themselves only to music that was made in the 70s and 80s. There's plenty of good stuff out there that just happens to be a little newer. I think you owe it to yourself to at least check it out.

Actually a lot of the bands from norway have old school rock riffs... check out Fireball Ministry they are a newer band, but they have that old rock sound. Check out viking skull also..

Really depends on what you currently like.

                          British Bands:

                          The Who
                          Cream
                          Jethro Tull
                          Led Zeppelin
                          The Yardbirds
                          John Mayall's Blues Breakers
                          Rolling Stones
                          Blind Faith
(Anything Eric Clapton was a part of)

                          American Bands:

                          Greatful Dead
                          The Doors
                          Jefferson Airplane
                          Jimi Hendrix
                          Janice Joplin

If you are serious about getting into older music, might I suggest you go back even further and learn a little Blues. It's the primary foundation for Rock music and every band listed above had a blues influence.

                          Blue:

                          Robert Johnson
                          BB King
                          Son House
                          Muddy Waters
                          Pinetop Perkins
                          Bobby Blue Bland
                          Albert King
                          Otis Rush
                          Buddy Guy
                          Albert Collins
                          Leadbelly
                          Howlin Wolf
                          T-Bone Walker
                          John Lee Hooker
                          Stevie Ray Vaughan
                          Shannon Curfman
                          Koko Taylor
                          Robert Clay
                          Shemekia Copeland
                          Susan Tedeschi
