Depending on how much your willing to spend, the Line 6 pod xt live is my personal favorite. The original line 6 pod is a nice if your looking to spend a little less and don't need a floorboard. If those are more than what your looking for, digitech makes some nice pedals for the money.

This is what my tour money will be going towards.

im a huge fan of the digitech gnx 4. all the same stuff as the line 6 podxt, but more customization options, and GREAT recording setup. has 8 channel mixer/recorder built in that you can record riffs and stuff. save tracks to a cf card (i use a 1gb card and get unlimited time). also has mic in, line in, balanced and line out stereo or mono, and tons of other stuff. connect usb to computer and you can upload mp3s to play along with, midi backing tracks, drum kits, you can use the drum kit software to make your own drum kit tracks, and you can record straight to the comp with included software (which is pretty decent)

im not one to talk up products, but this is by far the best thing i ever bought for guitar (been playing 14 years). let me know if you have any questions.

Depends on if you mean distortion like a DS-1 or overdrive like an 808. Check this guys web site. He has pedals that I've never even heard of before. Some sound samples to give you a clue if you might like the effect. Me a fuzz and an overdrive and thats all it needs....

I've got a boss Metal Zone, MT-2. It's a pretty awesome distortion pedal. I've got a DS-1 as well, but the MT-2 has replaced it. I prefer single pedals for effects over the big processors. I've got an effects processor and I barely ever use it. I just cycle through all the preset settings till I get bored.
