    Omaha Nebraska Shooting

So sad 8 innocent people savagely murdered

A 19-year-old gunman who killed eight people and then himself Wednesday at the Westroads Mall in Omaha, Nebraska, left a suicide note, police said.

Mass shootings in the United States are generally defined as firearm violence that wounds four or more people. Over the last two decades, mass shootings have become the centerpiece of the gun control debate in the U.S. as more shooting incidents are reported.

Maruca-Kovac said Hawkins was fired from his job at a McDonald's this week and had recently broken up with a girlfriend. She said he phoned her about 1 p.m. on Wednesday, telling her that he had left a note for her in his bedroom. She tried to get him to explain.

"He said, 'It's too late,"' and hung up, she said.

She told the AP she called Hawkins' mother, went to the Maruca-Kovacs' house and retrieved the suicide note, in which Hawkins wrote that he was "sorry for everything," would not be a burden on his family anymore and, most ominously, "Now I'll be famous."

Just another reason to arm yourself if you can legally do so in your state.

http://www.usconcealedcarry.com/ http://handgunlaw.us/ Check out the info for your state and if you can, do what it takes to get your ccw. Hopefully you can go a lifetime without needing to use a firearm to protect yourself, your family, or other law-abiding citizens. Of course we live in a screwed up world, so maybe YOUR mall will be next.

I wholeheartedly agree, but in a situation like that, how are the authorities going to know you're not the shooter? And if more than one person is carrying, whose to say you won't be mistaken as the shooter after shooting the real shooter?

It really is a tragedy, especially being so close to the holidays.

Horrible and tragic event and my prayers and thoughts go out to all the families affected by this. But...If I had gotten fired from McDonalds, I would have shot myself too. I mean, who gets fired from McDonalds?!

I hope I NEVER have to use my gun to protect myself. I refuse to be taken without a fighting chance, and sadly in this world that means a gun. If that doesnt work for you, pick you heads up people and look where you are. Pay attention to what surounds you and dont be a sheep in your daily life.

A problem that any person responsibly carrying a gun must take into consideration. I was always told to be obvious that your the one on the defence. yell. make a scene. call for help. And by god when the cops get there... do EXACTLY what they say and NOTHING more.
Most of all dont say a word. crying works great.

after that... if your lucky enough to still be alive... your gonna be downtown for a while.

The idea here is shooting isn't glamorous. Only shoot when you have to. when your life counts on it. Cause when the guns come out, it doesnt stop till someone is bleeding out...maybe you, the bad guy or both.

At least you have a chance.

A few of you know this hit very close to home for me. I spent a lot of time there this summer, and my friends are very upset by it.

Once again, this didn't have to happen. All the signs were there, to keep this crazy kid locked up or full time supervised.

BTW, that mall is a "gun free" zone thanks to the owners, which means....the only people allowed to have guns there, will be the ones with criminal intent.

Well if you are alive at the end of a shootout in somewhere like that, and were justified by defending yourself... honestly who cares. your alive. all the legal stuff should be at the back of your mind, and be thankful you get to find out how messed up your local gun laws really are.

The mall is private property. The owners can set any rule they wish. Same as your house. If they do not allow CCW, then they must post it (and it is at that mall) to comply with state law.

I don't think you will really get into much trouble with the police as it isn't against the law to carry there. The mall could probably ban you. Might even be able to sue you depending on the circumstances. Typically the person is told to leave and sometimes the police is called. Some states have the laws such that the CCW is just that. If it isn't "concealed" (ie someone realizes you are carrieing) then you can be arrested. Typically the charges for being caught is similar to threatening someone with a weapon or brandishing a weapon.

                          A) What did you do wrong that anyone knows. That being said you are in violation of your privledge to carry as outlined by your CCW and thus illegally carrying a firearm. At best for you your CCW is going to grow wings and fly away.

I carry a gun - almost everywhere. That being said, do not rely on a firearm or beleive it strictly necessary. I argued with a guy in practice the other day about drawing a gun at close range when someone had a knife - the FBI shows a knife in hand, closer than 21 feet, is deadlier than a holstered sidearm - and they are talking sidearms, not concealed weapons as illustrated in consideration of actual scenarios that had unfolded.

Do not think a firearm is necessary - there are many many instances of unarmed resistance working against an armed and deadly person.

That being said, learn something - Combato is probably the most useful (and most boring to learn). When someone attacks you (we are not talking some school pushing and shoving thing) they are bent on harming you. Fight back with effective and brutal measures (throat, groin, nose, eyes, elbows, knees) and hold nothing back - they may not stop until they kill you, do not stop until you are certain they cannot.
