    So I made some snow...

Here's a little video I put together. It was for a Christmas party at the youth group I lead. The theme for the party was Let It Snow...but in Iowa, there's no guarantee that you'll have snow in December. So, I've been wanting to build one of these for over a year and I finally had a reason to.

But, staying true to Murphy's Law, we got the first snow storm of the season just days after I did all this...but that's ok...at least we had snow!

Nice... it looks like you where siphoning the water with air pressure? Looked like the barbed fitting was the air pressure?

any snowball fights come of this?

Barbed fitting was air. The min. specs for that are a compressor rated at 5.4 cfm @ 90psi. It blows across an atomizer nozzle that is spraying water straight up...so no siphoning. It looks like it's blowing out because the air is blowing it.

I got the plans from this site: http://www.snowathome.com

That site is really good for explaining how the whole thing works.

Basically, the top two nozzles spray pressurized water and the bottom apparatus creates a microscopic ice nucleus that the water can freeze to...and bang...snow.

Do you have an average cost to make one?

I've seen some other home made machines that weren't near as nice...

Well, I bought the nozzle kit off of the snowathome website for about $60. The hoses and other fittings added to the cost, but I don't know how much because I haven't gotten a receipt from my lead fabricator. I had help from a guy who works for an automation company, so the aluminum bar and angle aluminum (not sure if that's the right term) were scrap that he used. I'm gonna put the total cost at $100 or less. It could be done for much cheaper if you knew the exact nozzles to order and got them from McMaster Carr or some other distributor.

I wanted to make sure I got tried and trued nozzles. The "housing" could be anything...half a pvc pipe, angle iron or anything really.
