    New Life Shooting

Omaha, YWAM, and then New Life...
The gunman was killed by an armed security volunteer at the church before police arrived, authorities said. The gunman's name was not released. Officers found several smoke-generating devices on the church campus; their intended purpose wasn't clear.

Boyd said the security guard rushed the attacker, who didn't get more than 6 feet inside the building, and "took him down in the hallway."

"She probably saved 100 lives," Boyd said of the guard. The gunman, he added, "had a lot of ammunition to do a lot of damage."

Well, obviously this one. Security was bolstered after what happened the night before.

Without getting into the whole quagmire of debate about where this country is heading...I'll just say, "Is any of this really a suprise to anyone?"

When you have something like 7000 people on campus you probably need some security. That and to deal with all the wackos who have probably been showing up since the noteriety the church has gotten since the previous pastor made the headlines.

The police and media have been very hush hush about who the shooter(s) are and if they are muslem. I would expect to see an increase of attacks against churches in the coming years. It is only a matter of time before the muslems see it a duty (read jahad) to attack churches in the US. They do it everywhere else.

Also note that that wasn't the only church in the area with heightened security that morning and you will probably see more churches with dedicated security in the coming months. Also note that a lot of churches have parishioners who are legally carrying concealed firearms. There have been a number of cases where armed members of churches have prevented attacks such as this.

Not a muslim, but great guessing from a couple of you (*sarcasm off*)

            Little more of the incident:

Vet lauds female guard who felled gunman
            By Kieran Nicholson
            The Denver Post

Authorities say 18-year-old Stephanie Works and 16-year-old
Rachael Works died from their injuries after a gunman opened fire
outside New Life Church on Sunday. Larry Bourbonnais, a combat-tested
Vietnam veteran, said it was the bravest thing he's ever seen.

Bourbonnais, who was among those shot by a gunman Sunday at New
Life Church, watched as a security guard, a woman later identified as
Jeanne Assam, calmly returned fire and killed the shooter.

"She just started walking toward the gunman firing the whole
way," said Bourbonnais, who was shot in the arm. "She was just yelling

'Surrender,' walking and shooting the whole time."

Bourbonnais, 59, had just finished up a hamburger in the
cafeteria on the sprawling church campus when he heard gunfire, he
            recalled.

He headed in the direction of the shots as frightened people ran
past him looking to escape to safety.

"Where's the shooter? Where's the shooter?" Bourbonnais kept
            yelling, he recalled.

Near an entryway in the church, Bourbonnais came upon the gunman
and an armed male church security guard who was there with his gun
drawn but not firing, he said.

Bourbonnais said he pleaded with the armed guard to give him his
            weapon.

"Give me your handgun. I've been in combat, and I'm going to take

this guy out," Bourbonnais recalled telling the guard. "He kept
yelling, 'Get behind me! Get behind me!' He wouldn't hand me his
weapon, but he wouldn't do anything."

There was an additional armed security guard there, another man,
who also didn't fire, Bourbonnais said.

Bourbonnais yelled at the gunman to draw his attention, he said.

"First, I called him 'Coward' then I called him 'S---head' "
Bourbonnais said. "I probably shouldn't have been saying that in
            church."

That's when the shooter pointed one of his guns at Bourbonnais
            and fired, he said.

Bourbonnais ducked behind a hollow, decorative pillar and was hit

in the arm by a bullet and fragments of the pillar.

At about that moment, Assam, 42, turned a corner with a drawn
handgun, walked toward the gunman and yelled "Surrender!" Bourbonnais
            said.

The gunman pointed a handgun at Assam and fired three shots,
Bourbonnais said. She returned fire and just kept walking toward the
gunman pressing off round after round.

After the gunman went down, Bourbonnais asked the Assam, a
volunteer security guard with the church, how she remained so calm and

            focused.

            Bourbonnais said she replied:

"I was asking the Holy Spirit to guide me the entire time."

Stephanie and Rachel were good friends of mine. Hits close to home. Some of the kindest and gentlest girls I knew, and coming from a family that has already been through a lot. I can't even imagine them and weapons in the same context.

Not many people knew of the NLC security staff, but they have been around for years, and are very well trained (almost all ex-military or ex-LE). It's a huge chuch, maybe 9-10000 attendees at their main service, and that's of 3 services. Praise God that Jeanne was able to take this guy down fast.

Not really. Think about the kids we're raising today. It starts in the home with weak or non-existant role-models/ parenting. That leads to negative respect for authority/ others. Add a society bathed in violence through media & entertainment, and easy access to crowd killing weapons, and you've got something that will just keep happening. Not surprising at all. Its a social epidemic.

On the plus side, there's one less turd in the world.

Does not mean strong role model/ parenting. I can tell my kid how he SHOULD be acting all day- I could hammer him into the ground with "What God wants". If I aint a good person/ Dad/ role model, all the bible thumping in the world aint gonna matter.

I dont know how this kid was raised. It may have had nothing to do with it. He may have been the demon-seed from day one. Possible mental isues...Blah-Blah-Blah...

Fact is, our society allows single parent families. It allows abusive families. It gives criminal abusers (and criminals in general) all the rights in the world. It celebrates violence, drug use and promiscuity, especially among our children (just check out the movie "Superbad"). It wants out-of-wedlock babies, then wants to kill 'em like weeds. It denigrates the family model, then cries out when one of its products takes an assault weapon and mows down a group of people.

C'mon folks, you think a kid raised on "Gears of War" + MTV, with crappy parent(s), aint capable of this??? Its what you WANTED!

Lets hear it for our Super Liberal Media/ Society! It Feeds (on) itself!

Wow, biggest load of tripe I have read in a LONG time. So it is society that ALLOWS single parent families? So what say you if a mom or dad dies? Should two parents stay together for the sake of the children? Would it amaze you to hear that divorce is a better option than haveing two parents going at it every night? Prob not, a prayer to god would make it all ok.... Would you make a law that makes people stay married or get married so there isn't a single parent family?
Our society ALLOWS abusive families? Where do you come up with this crap?

I for one think its a great thing that criminals are given "all the rights in the world". Maybe one day YOU may be the person charged, don't you want those same rights? Of course you don't but I and many other Americans do.

Yeah, your major point about our drug taking, sex crazed, violent movies is this.....IT'S A MOVIE, IT'S NOT REAL.

Our society WANTS out of wedlock babies? Wow, you really are out of touch. As far as wanting to kill them like weeds, how about you do what you want with your body, and let others do the same.

As far as YOUR family model, what is that? YOUR idea of a family model, may not be others idea. So tell you what, live YOUR life the way you want and let others live theirs the way THEY want.

Two gay people that have a child has NOTHING to do with YOU or your bible. My aunt raised 2 kids with her GAY partner, and they both turned out just fine. As a matter of fact, if you asked the kids (now in their 20's) they would tell you they were both happier when their parents got divorced and their mother found her wife.

As far as the violence, sex, and "drug use", I have a book you can read that is filled with it. It's called the bible.

Millions of people live in this world every day and don't follow your bible and some how THEY don't go off killing people. Don't blame this crap on the liberal media and lifestyle, this has NOTHING to do with any of it. As a matter of fact, so many guns on the street is actually a conservative issue, so how is it not their falt?
Due to the objections of a certain Canadian, this space is now for rent.

He did. But he also had serious mental issues. A former roomate has spoken about how this fellow would talk to his other voices.

"One night Werner was awakened by Murray's chattering and complained: "Hey, Matt can you just stop that. What are you doing?

"He just turned and said, 'Dude, I'm just talking to my voices,'" Werner recalled.

"Richard ... you don't have to worry," Murray reassured him. "You're a nice guy. The voices like you.""

He was a nutjob and it doesn't matter how he was raised, who his parents were or how much money they had or didn't have. Crazy is crazy. It was only a matter of time before someone made him mad enough to snap.
