I've gone up to veterans randomly in town and told them thank you. Most of them are very very appreciative of it.

Of course the video is nice but the proper sign for thankyou is fingers together palm towards your face, fingers touching the mouth/chin and lowering down so the palm is exposed and facing up. Of course if you do have the ability to speak, how about simply saying it.
