    looking for a new knife.

    what do you guys reccomend?

i want to upgrade from my POS $8 sheffield blade to something a little more quality.

its primarly going to be used to open boxes, strip wires, cut rope, stuff like that. Might need it for self defense eventually, i drive pizza.

i'm looking for something that doesn't have a serrated blade.

    what do you guys use?

I have cut myself many times on accident because of that.

Smith&Wesson and Cumberland knifes are both good also

I like the Gerber knives better than the Kershaw ones I have had. I always seem to lose them. Single blade of reasonable size (normally the back half "sawed") seems to be pretty convenient most of the time.

Never gonna use it for self defense though.

Benchmade makes great stuff as does Zero Tolerance, which is a division of Kershaw.

Crkts arent bad blades, but of the 6 of them Ive had, 5 of them had screws back out of the handle rendering the knife useless. The 6th ones blade broke. Gerbers are ok. I like the gator. Id rather have a kershaw though.

Yeah I have had that happen too.

Actually thats what happened to my gerber... all the screws fell out of the frame.

but as far as the CRKT's the clip screws wiggle loose. I red loktite'd them and fixed that. never had the frame handle screws come out tho.

I'm a big fan of my Gerber but an even bigger fan of my Cold Steel knives.

Look to their Voyager series for the tasks you listed...

I have a Leatherman. I have both a Knife and the more common Multi tool. I love both and I highly recommend them.

Cheaper Than Dirt! is America's Ultimate Shooting Sports Discounter, and we live up to that title. Expect bulk ammo deals, discounts, gun care accessories and more

I use knives in an everyday sense. I don't think ill be using one to protect myself anytime soon, Id use my hands before stabbing someone so a cheap flea market knife is fine for me. no sense in breaking the bank on something that'll probably be abused.

+10 on Cold Steel, just make sure it is one of their USA made knives. Although too big for what you need a knife for, I had my Trailmaster with me on my last tour. It was invaluable in opening crates, boxes, car doors, going THROUGH car doors, and intimidating the local citizens (who value a good knife over a gun).

They carry a very good line of folders too.
