Yes and they get paid quite well to do just that.

Yeah you want to hear a story from today. Here goes. Today guy was not feeling well. Wife tells him to go to ER and get check. His reply is I will be fine, I will go get checked out Monday if I need to. Yeah he's dead now.

You know the fire service is a funny thing. I see people go to the hospital for the dumbest stuff.(i.e. I fell 5 DAYS AGO and my foot hurts) but on the other hand when the majority of people have major issues(chest pains) they deny anything is wrong until its to late.

I am not saying you have a life threating injury, but what the hell go get checked out. Personally my life is worth the time and cost of going to the ER.

    ....Rant over........

Well, it's his life and his money, I don't really care if he goes or not. He asked for opinions and I gave mine.

I'm of the notion that you gotta die of something, sometime, and when it's your time, it's your time. No amount of money or doctors will guarantee that you will live another day, on any given day, so there is no sense in running off to be pet scanned (CAT scan, DOG scan, whatever ) every time you feel like crap or fall and get a boo boo.

This is doubly true if you actually have to pay for said scans and whatnot out of pocket AND spend 3-8 hrs at the hospital to do it. There are a lot of ways I can waste $500-$800 and 3-8 hrs, basically all of them more fun (and ultimately more useful) than going to the hospital.

BTW, that guy who felt bad and then dropped dead could have dropped dead at the hospital just as easily as he could at home. Seeing a doctor does not automatically mean you will live any longer than had you not seen him/her. Welcome to being mortal.

uhhh yeah he might have dropped in the hospital but his chances of survival would have been about 80% better. Which is great if its may butt on the ground.

Odds are he will be fine. BUT he wanted opinions and I will not give an opinion of not going to get checked out with the symptoms he posted and not seeing it for myself.

If you're still having actual muscle spasms, even this many hours later, then yes, you might want to have someone look at you to rule out nerve damage or something like that. You'd have to have taken one hell of a lick to do that kind of harm though. I would think you'd have trouble walking or even standing after such a lick.

I took the phrase "I've been shaking nonstop" to mean you were jittery/emotionally drained and had the shakes because of it. I used to get that after a race when I first started. Coming down of the huge hour long adrenaline wave my hands would shake for the rest of the night.

I dunno. I've never been amongst the "You can never be too safe." crowd, but on the other hand, actual factual nerve damage at such a young age would be a bad deal as well.

I'm not coordinated enough to skate/surf/snow board, so I have no idea how hard you can hit something doing that sort of thing, and thusly can't say whether it's enough to damage your permanently or not.

Ultimately, you gotta make the call yourself.

                        WTF are you talking about?

You, on the other hand, are just a troll.

I remember once upon a time, when AO wasn't choked with morons and intelligent discussion could be had.

No more, PBN ain't got nothin' you guys these days. I've seen more intelligent and well mannered discussions held between four year olds.

You've been here long enough to know better too. Have you always been a troll, or is this a recent fetish you've picked up?

a troll? sorry i can't get 3k posts, i guess i just lack the ability to make "intelligent discussion". wait what? since when can you make 3000+ intelligent posts about intelligent discussion? thats whats wrong with this place -- everyone is too conceited to see that the new guys have nothing to do with the "PBN" state of AO. who gives a crap about your extened stay on AO? Paintball is not a sport you can stay in for an extended period of time and keep up with everything. why don't i care anymore? because all of my buddies quit, SP tried to take over the industry and the local store(s) closed, oh and AO sucks. Let the new generation of AO'ers make what they want with it rather than whine about what it use to be, its not coming back.

i remember once upon a time when the friendly corner was friendly. now i had to explore on the internet what the three *'s mean in your post, along with the racial hatred that comes along with it. sorry i had to report you to the SS but i saw some pretty raunchy stuff. my "safe for the whole family" mind is ruined. and are you implying that your white backside is more important than say one of different color?

i'll be honest: i didn't read your post because frankly i dont care. you were bragging on the internet how great of an economic strategy it was to skip out of the ER because you can't afford health insurance for a couple of stitches, like others said, the original poster could end up dead. did you not realize the convulsions he had for 10 minutes? thats probably some sort of spinal damage and/or internal bleeding.

and to be perfectly honest, i dont care if i look like a troll to you. you straight up said (and i quote)

looking at the whole situation rather than giving my input that will probably result in someone dead. you talked about getting stitches, something completely different then convulsions, as said before possibly permanent spinal damage.

its a recent fetish i picked up: posting a witty quip. i guess your faulty name calling tactics fell short this time

Well I will give you my $.02 because I am a nurse and, well you asked. First off, I am not a Dr. and this is in no way to be taken as a diagnosis of your condition, a course of treatment, or what you should do. These are suggestions that you may choose to follow or not. The best option is to seek medical help, but that is up to you.

If you have not had loss of bowel or bladder control, can walk-talk and type, have not blacked out sence and don't have a lot of duckets to blow at the ER you can do a few things.

                            1. Take 800mg of Ibuprofen every 8 hours for the next few days. Ice the area of pain but do not apply the ice directly to the skin. The IBU is an anti-inflamatory but will not help with the muscle spasms. Watch out for things like abdominal pain, loss of conciousness, blurry vision, the above mentioned loss of bowel or bladder control, any weakness of either extremity, increased head ache. IF ANY OF THESE THINGS OCCURE, SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION ASAP.

                            2. Google urgent care in your area, these will most likely run you much less and typically they will give you a cash discount for services rendered. You have the option to refuse any treatment they suggest. Some flexeril or skelaxin (muscle relaxers) would help with the muscle spasms, but that is simply a comfort measure, the spasms will eventually resolve on their own.

                            3. Pay out the nose at the ER.
Due to the objections of a certain Canadian, this space is now for rent.

Coolhand, your $500 to $700 at the ER is low. My last ER bills came out in the $3500 to $4000 area after I went (I paid, no insurance). It was one of those I didn't think I had to go but everyone else thought I did. It turned out fairly minor - partially collapsed lung, bruised spleen, bruised ribs, sprained ankle (I got run over by a hay wagon). The doctor only slightly objected when I told him I was playing paintball the next day .

That being said I still think if I had an injury induced seizure or injury induced prolonged black out I would probably be headed to the ER. Especially if I had had no history of seizures in the past.

Taking prescription medications (vicodin) to mask the pain with no medical attention is not a good idea.

no offense but I have no idea why you are asking for medical advice on a paintball forum. seriously none of these people are any more qualified than my left nut. or my right one.
with the exception of the nurse, of course.
if you really don't want to go get it checked out, either stop whining or post on some medical advice forums. I'm sure there are some, just google it. but come on... automags online?? it's not even a paintball related injury.
my advice would be to get it checked out asap, and not snowboard today. but its your body. im not going to pretend to know whats best for it unlike some of these douchebags
