    5MP camera phone?

I'm looking for a new phone, I've got my old one from around 2003 still with a monochrome blue screen, and I'd like to upgrade. I'm looking for a 5mp camera phone and wondering if anyone has one or has any experience with one.

I've got my eye on teh Nokia N95 or the N82 so far. Any recommendations?

I am incredibly impressed with the camera quality on my GF's Envy. The pictures are damn near digital camera quality.

My friend had the n95 and he said the phone is great, with some of the best features available.

If you use the features your phone will however die quickly. Plus its a pretty good size phone, not comfortably sized to put in your pocket.

I would look in to the sony erricsons, They have always had great quality phones and have a good battery life. My brother just picked up the k770 for $260 and it seems like a great phone. 3 mp camera was clear enough for me and it has a media player an all that. Only 3 colors for it though, unfortunately none of them are black...

theres a higher end erricson, but the name escapes me. I think its the k880 but im not sure. Ill check around for something.

EDIT:: its called the k850, give it a quick googling and youll find all the info on it.

the sony Ericsson's is the K850I

between the n95 and the K850I gl finding a better camera phone. also the N95 should set you back about $500 and the K850I about $350-400. both area great phones from my (lack) of experience (going into the stores and fiddling)

Don't even bother worrying about the megapixel rating on a camera phone. Less resolution (to a point) will probably look better. The sensors in a device like that are tiny. More photosites on the sensor (more MP) means noisy grainy images. A camera phone has it's purposes, but high quality images is not among them.

As stated... don't get caught up in "megapixels". They are important to a point... but other important factors like glass quality, optical zoom, and low noise ratio should be weighted equally to the total pixels. I'm not saying there aren't decent ones out there... but if your worried about cost dont expect a high quality/cost ratio from a cameraphone that would from an actual camera.

They should be called phonecameras... not cameraphones.

I guess it's on topic so here's a pic from my phone's 2mp camera. The pic may be 2 pixels... but the noisy grainy image leaves something to be desired. I'd rather have a lower MP rating with a larger color pallate and less noise.

As said, the Envy takes good pictures, it has a 2.3 mp camera. I believe there is a media phone form Verizon that has a 3mp, which I think is the highest mp counts for phones. But if you are wanting a camera, get a camera.

Personally, I recommend a 2 or 3 mp camera in your phone, for times you need to document something and don't have a camera with you, or just want to pull out something for social occasions. A decent 2 or 3 mp camera will work fine. Spend the money you save (you will save money) towards a real digital camera. Even the pocket cameras smaller than the cell phone you're looking at will take much better pictures. If you can deal with a little bit more heft, you can get a decent zoom, a higher megapixel count, a much better lens, and better overall picture quality.

I personally went for a 3mp camera phone back when 3mp in a phone was crazy. I really like having the extra resolution over a 1.3 mp camera, but I wouldn't need anymore than 3mp. If I'm taking pictures for anything important, I use my 7mp semi-pocket camera with 10x zoom. Amazing pictures.

wouldn't a 5 MP camera phone use a buttload of memory just for a single picture? Better stock up on them micro SD cards!
