Lost an old friend last night

Not anyone that too many of you would know, but this hits pretty close to home. And old running buddy of mine, Bill, died last night as a result of injuries from a motorcycle accident.
All the details are not in, but apparently he had been drinking, at least earlier in the day, lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a guard rail. The resulting head trauma and severed spinal cord prompted family members to disconnect him from life support. He would never have been the same, and I think it was a good decision.
His daughter was in a car behind him and saw the accident occur.

I know that in no way could I have influenced him. I haven't even spoken to Bill in some number of years aside from one phone call. I still wish that I could have spoken to him after my accident. Perhaps it could have helped....I don't know. At this point we aren't even sure what caused him to go out of control. It may have been a mechanical failure beyond ability to rectify. I am sure more details will come about as people put the pieces together.

I am making an assumption to some degree at this point, but I sure hate to see a young man lose his life to alcohol.

Jesus, looks like I may not take that motorcycle course after all. I don't drink, but one little mistake is all it takes to end up dead on those things.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I can understand how you feel, given what happened to you.

My condolences. I almost died the other day because of gravel on the road. My car ended up doing 45 sideways and if I had'nt jerked the steering wheel the "wrong" way I would have ended up with my face in someone's tractor grill.

Well...I dont know what to say. I also ride a Harley and have seen it all. I just cannot justify having even 1 drink and getting on this bike. If you dont kill your self, your impaired judgement will let someone else hit you. You guys have GOT to knock it off! My deepest condolences to the family of a fellow rider...

                  Sorry for the loss.

When I ride I will not even have one drink. You need all you riding skills to the max on a normal day. Again sorry for the loss but at least no other vehicle's or families were involved in the crash.

Really sucks to lose a buddy, punk.

Guys, let this be a lesson: Nobody cares how cool you think you looked drunk....when your face has been ground off by the pavement. All anyone will say about you, is how stupid you were to drink and drive.

Don't let "stupid" be your legacy.

Punk, my heart goes out to you and Bill's family.

Army said it very well, and I second it. PLEASE don't ride impaired!! I beg you as an EMS worker for over 20 years.... I don't like working senseless wrecks.. I lost a friend and a fellow emergency services co-worker a number of years ago for the same thing, and I had the 'pleasure' of working the code in the ambulance. It sucks hard in the first place, it sucks worse when it is a friend.

Sorry.. getting off the soapbox now.

Keep testifying the message punk! There is no one who can make a more salient point then one who has been to the edge and come back. I hope you find peace in your own mind over this as well.

I see it over & over & over again. I've taken them to jail, and helped scoop them up & take them to the morgue. Its always sad. I dont feel bad for them tho, only their families, and the people they hurt. Like you, you're now among the many that have been touched by this type of tradgedy.
My prayers to you & his family.
