    water or juice "fasting"

ok, once again summer is almost here and its my annual get into shape time!

for some reason i was sluggish this winter and put on some weight..so ive been pretty much starving myself for the past week and its showing slow results and i dont want to continue on this, basically..i got to school full time and work 42 hours a week..so the gym is really out of the question right now..but ive heard of juice or water fasting as a good way of losing some weight in a timely fashion. i know how its done, and i know just not eating is a horrible idea, and i dont want to resort to it at all. i have quit drinking soda and whatnot..just water/ sports water now..what do you guys recommend?

Starving yourself only works for a week or two. Your body adjusts to the new caloric intake pretty quickly and you'll stagnate. Then when you start eating more your body readjusts and you gain it back.

Adjust your caloric intake and exercise.

Eat whole food, not processed food.
Use the apple rule - Save enough room for an apple.
Walk briskly for 30 minutes a day. - That's a mile and a half for most people.

You'll lose weight, slowly and healthily.

Some of the sports drinks have very high caloric content BTW... and drink a glass or two of water before each meal. That will help you trim down how MUCH you eat.

      Good luck,

Quit drinking calories - water, which is better for your body, has 0 calories.

Cut back, and to quote a commercial "make smart choices". Laughing Cow light brie cheese is 35 calories a wedge and substitutes perfectly for a snack cheese. Light yogurt and a banana makes a great breakfast and fills you for the morning (plus the added benefits of active yogurt cultures). More fruits + vegetables over breads and pastas, as well as limiting breads and pastas to morning so you're body has time to burn the carbs. No snacking after dinner, giving your body at least three hours (and two glasses of water) to digest and burn. When I go out I am careful what I order on menus - salmon is as good to me as steak and far better for me. Shrimp (prepared right) is good for you.

Do not starve yourself, at that point you start to lose muscle more than fat. Find a half hour a day, at least three times a week, to do some sort of exercise. The time is there (I used to be of the opinion it wasn't either).

Set goals, I set them on a monthly basis - in both weight and exercise. I set goals in running and weight and have lost 25lbs since New Years as well as getting my running times closer to what they were ten years ago.

Collagen helps supply amino acids (and is suggested to promote natural HGH production) and will really help you build lean muscle and burn fat. I take marine source type II collagen daily. I also take a multi-vitamin.

I am by no means an expert, this is what works for me - your mileage may vary.

Starving or liquid fasts only break down your body, they do not promote weight loss by themselves.

3 squares and moderate excersize, and your body will only use what it needs, without resorting to survival mode.

fruits, like bananas, oranges, and the like for meals. LOTS of water.
              tons of it.
              guzzle that stuff.
              it'll do you good.
and lay off processed foods, they don't do anything for you. I'm trying to get back into shape for summer too!

I'm actualy in the same situation. No gym during the semesters, but will work out every day during summer. I changed my diet, no more chips and caloric liquids. I eat more fruits, vegetables and drink more water. For protein, i mostly eat tuna.

Some vegetables like celery actualy burns more calories by digesting it than what the item will produce. So no matter how much you eat, you will still burn more than you produce.

Don't forget that you still need your 4 food groups. Only taking juices and water won't give you any proteins for your muscles or calcium for your bones.

Careful, too much water intake at once can kill you. Drink moderately all day if you must, but do not "guzzle" a lot all day. Keep a 1.5L bottle with you at all times, and drink one bottle every two hours. This will allow your body to absorb what it needs, and pass on the rest. More exercise, or heat of day...then one bottle per hour is fine.

Too much water will strip your body of essential salts and minerals that maintain organs and brain function.

notthat everyone would recomend this. but i dont have time to get to the gym, so i take twin lab (efedra free) fat burner, drink about two gallons of water a day, and do 50 to 75 20pound curls per arm, and 50 to 75 varied pushups every morning. and i eat a controlled amount of carbs and protiens. i have only lost one pound in three weeks. but i have lost quite a lot of fat and gained very much muscle using twinlab protien. but if you are not looking to gain muscle ...just take the burner...is pretty cheap. but you cant have caffien with it lest you stay up for 40 hours at a time. good luck.

good advice. there is such a thing as water poisoning from too much water.

Yup, you will get a negative osmosis in your system. Your cells will try to equilibrate with the excess water in your system.

been taking alot of Armys advice..7lbs lost this last week..the getting up 20 minutes early to run a few miles is working pretty good, and i actually feel like i have MORE energy when im in class. but i work till 11 and i slowly start to die off at about 9:30.

but IMO it is worth it..thanks for the good advice guys, keep it coming!
