    74 260z project

so we've been working on the 260z i bought to drive as a fun car (nana and papa are giving me a 2004 Camry in beautiful condition for free, which I am completely grateful for but i like to drive. that isn't fun.) 3 or 4 weeks ago for $400 out in the bay. garaged for 10 years, so the body was in real good shape. they said it wouldn't run... they were retarded. not a ton had to happen, my dad (Aegis) figured out most all of this stuff quickly enough and now it is running like this

few pictures when i had it out to wash:

it's gonna be autocrossed, so there will be minor upgrades as they are able to be paid for, but nothing too crazy. if the motor ever real bites the dust it'll either get an L28 (maybe even an L28et, but dad says if i go turbo i'm SOL with help from him... yeah right :P) or a V8. real popular swap cars.

short range plans are new tires as soon as it is running and registered, after that just maintenance items. and i need a battery for it,right now it has one of the Bronco's in it (dual battery setup in the Bronco) but it'll have to go back

Man that Bronco is sexy... I was thinking about pulling the motor from my R33 (RB25) when I left here, and dropping it in 260, but then I found out we were having a baby... :)

I cannot believe you picked up a 260 in that kind of shape for 400. That was a steal. Those are becoming quite collectable. Plenty of clubs around for them, easy to care for. The biggest issue is still finding the right heads, as that is carbuerated and all the later models were fuel injected.
There are some nice turbo's available for those and will make it into a VERY fast ride.

I will hunt you down and inflict serious nagging and tounge lashing if you swap that car into a V8......Do that to a 280, they are much more common.

Kevin, RB swaps get pretty nuts... bunch of people on HybridZ have done 'em.

punkn, yeah, i know, total steal, just sitting in some garage. it's in great shape, but they really had no idea how to work a car. i also neglected to mention in the first post that it is actually an L24 engine as they blew the L26, so it has the better carbs and higher power for the US model since they had to detune the L26 to meet emissions.

a V8 swap isn't anything to get heated about, still looks nice and clean when done. an L28 swap is much more realistic, though... no midification

If you do decided on a V8 swap, please use a modern V8

Ford MOD motor or a GM LS

and then load the boost on.

haha, you think i'm made of cash? if I go V8 it'll be with the 302 that is sitting on a stand in the garage, picked it up for free from another Bronco guy. dad's got the big truck, i've got the little car :o

boost... i wish. i think i'll probably get a switch that says 'b00st!!1' and an empty NOS bottle or something, just so everyone thinks i'm NOS'd with some crazy turbo setup.

probably one of my favorite things about the car:

taken from eBay, but that sits in the center console... i think i'll wire it to a switch so i can turn it on and off

I was actually looking for a nice 280 z in the area but everything around here has either been sitting forever and has a seized engine or Has been brought here from another state and has rusted to crap. I dont mind either one but i dont have the space for a project car at the moment.

                    Definitely a nice find.

You can pick up a 2v 4.6 for dirt cheap. Buddy of mine bought a 3v out of a mark VIII for $400.

edit: not to mention a LOT of money goes into a V8 swap past the motor
