    laptop question

my friends has a laptop that won't power up, i know a little about computers, more about electronics in general (12 year security/alarm technician, and a/v installer).
i have checked the battery, and am reading 0 volts from any pin to any pin.
and then checked the barrel connector on the end of the charger and reading no voltage there either (in the ac and dc settings).
am i safe to assume that the charger is dead, my understanding is that most laptops will power up without the battery, and just off the wall charger (i know mine will).

the pc is an HP, if this will help.

    thanks all,
    dan

Your charger is dead. If your buddy plugged it up and thought that he was charging it, and the charger wasnt working, then the battery just eventually drained. Even when off, the there is still a small drain on the battery.

You can buy the HP chargers on Ebay.
WOW, sigs. Havent seen these in a while here on AO.
