    need help finding a phone!

So 2 christmas' ago I had the bright idea of getting a verizon chocolate. I'm now stuck with this phone on my plane until this coming christmas. I absolutely am so sick of this phone I'm looking into a new one.
I want a QWERTY verizon phone, so I look into the new smartphone line that verizon just came out with.
The smt5800 caught my eye, I'm looking into it.
    It's only $200(after rebate) with a 2 year plan, and it's $400 without a plan.
    I can't justify spending $400 on a phone.
Is windows on a phone worth it? I'm not a business man and feel like I could be wasting my money for an option I might not use

I'M not interested in the envy, envy2, voyager or glyde.

I would spend $300 max on a new phone, and would rather not suck it up til december.
I knew not what I did but am now edumacated

check out the samsung i760. Google maps, rail road tycoon, youtube, skype , 802.11g, evdo

Waaaay too many options to list. I'm some what a phone junkie, I know more about phones then any local rep ( i know, that isn't hard ).

Verizon is extremely limited with good phones due to their horrible proprietary software and limitations imposed to charge you for things that should be free. htc products are buggy, kinda like old ati grafix cards- great hardware terrible software support. For future reference they recently merged or where bought out and could start producing usable machines are early as march next year.

I was about done with verizon until I found the i760. If you want truly remarkable phones you'll go at&t or t-mobile and go overseas for phones. Seriously America is being robed by our phones companies and the RIAA. The tech available would blow you're mind. Now that the customer base stopped growing it's possible that competition will heat up which will be a breath of fresh air finally!

Wait a month, swtich to ATT, and get one of the new iphones. There are three of us at work that have used just about every type of PDA phone available, and the iphone honestly kills all of them in terms of ease of use and once you jailbreak it, functionality.

Out of all the PDA operating systems, I'd easily rate Windows Mobile last for ease of use and speed, and even stability. I had to hard reset my BlackJack at least once a day. If you have to stick with Verizon, go with a Blackberry Curve.

I just picked up a blackberry curve on Verizon, and I love it. Being a later generation model, they seem to have thought of everything I might want. It has wonderful scheduling and contact abilities, making my life much easier. It also has 3G internet access, GPS, and even lets you play any song you have loaded as a ringtone. It's also much smaller than the old blackberries, but still has a full usable QWERTY board, and works great as a cell phone, except for the small number keys. I mean, they thought the thing out so much, they even have a small magnet in the belt clip that the phone senses when you put it in, making it go into standby mode automatically. They really, really put a lot of thought into it. RIM has a new blackberry coming out soon that looks to be even better, plus a touch-screen one on the way.

Trust me, go take a look at them.

Curves are second on my list. 'Well thought out' is probably the best description you could use for them, which in a phone is more important than people realize.

well I'm not a business man, so I don't really need all those business type perks. I don't know if I should waste all the extra money for a smart phone or pda.

Same thing if you want a qwerty keyboard and don't want any of the phones you mentioned.

Try a curve or switch to ATT next month and get one of the new iphones.

Your unit was deployed to iraq, and you need to cancel your contract, seeing as your current phone is worthless overseas.

(thats how my buddy got out of his contract that he was unhappy with. they canceled his contract, didn't make him pay that current month, and thanked him for serving his country. No, he is not in the armed forces.)

Thats if you dont have any problems with lying about things like that....

Here are a few break down:

Verizon: I760 only if you want to stay with them for the next few year to make your investment worth while, it is one expensive phone without an upgrade/new line

Blackberry on verizon: not worth it at all, they will lock you into the data plan which is a lot more expensive than the regular plan. All blackberry cannot use the voice plan on verizon. Black berry on any other carrier is ok, a great phone, and the brick game is fun.

If you plan to move to other carrier:

ATT / Tmobile : Iphone is best if you want to use the whole suite, web browsing, youtube and all ( wait for 3g, not the current generation). If you want other phone there are plenty overseas phone that you can buy and use on tmobile or att network. Look at gsmarena.com for more information / selections.

Wrong. You certainly can get the voice only plan. I just did it. Shoot, I can show you the bill. You will just miss out on internet and email functions.

unfortunately, I can't change carriers, I'd love to as a understand that verizon sucks. My phone it on my dad's business plan, and I don't have the money to pay the bills myself.

Did the Iphone ever get unlocked for verizon?

It'll be on ATT for at least 2 more years. The new version requires an ATT contract with purchase. You'll be able to get iphone V1 unlocked pretty cheap in about a month.

300$ brand new on ebay ( least that's what I paid ) And it can text/e-mail, which even the new iphone cannot.

Either way, Verizons only phone that's worth while is the i760. if that's not the phone for you, the switch away from verizon.

I'm holding out on rumor that there is a new phone for christmas made to work with the new Google Android platform.

Check it out. this thing is the PC (NON MAC) Iphone without all the gayness.

Its completely open source and the SDK is available for download to anyone for free. You can basically do anything you want with it.
