Anyone else notice that shipping costs just went WAY up?

I was shocked to find that UPS has just gone well up on their shipping costs.
I have been doing a lot of selling and shipping items lately. In the past I had been using USPS, but a new UPS store opened down the road which is never crowded. Our local PO of a MESS all the time.
Well I had been using the USPS site to guestimate shipping costs cause up until a week ago they were very close. Two items that I shipped out last week, the cost was DOUBLE what I had calculated. I actually sold two items and didn't get enough to even cover the shipping.

If I keep doing this I am in essence just giving things away....

i know what you mean about giving stuff away. I shipped some motorcycle parts and shipping came to almost 75 bucks.....too bad I only sold the parts for 80

I have to ship some stuff to Canada at the end of this week, hopefully it hasn't increased too much on international.

thats why you sell things as "price + actual shipping"

unless you KNOW shipping is going to be X, then factor X into your price.

If i was only making 5 bucks on those parts, i'd have gone back to the buyer and said 'I can refund you, or you can pay for shipping. I'm not losing my *** on this.'

i would have if they were worth anything to me, but the parts had been laying in the shed getting scratched up. It was just some motorcycle plastics that were worth much less than 80....just had to ship in a huge box.

New fiscal year as of the 1st. Many companies I deal with, have had significant increases in their costs.

yep, I sent an M4 upper reciever assembly and it costed over well over 30 bucks with insurance.
Didn't really expected that.
