    TV suggestions

Well, my old CRT TV seems to have just died. I'm not sure but I think it's a 32". So I guess I need to go shopping for a new one. Thing is I know there's a lot of different types out there these days, and I really don't know anything about them. I fugure I want at least a 25" model, and I really don't want to spend any more than $500 if at all possible. I don't care about hanging it on the wall, so the slim design means little to me. Any suggestions?

Whatever you get, make sure it has a digital tuner. Especially, when looking for cheap sets. Without the digital broadcast tuner, you will need another box(cable, sat or DTV tuner) to watch tv next year.

very good advice. Any TV without the htsc tuner is basicly worthless at this point.

My viewing distance is roughly 6-12ft most of the time. I'm looking at the Circuit City website, Vizio, AOC Envision, and Toshiba all seem to have good reviews at ok prices. any inputs on those brands?

I just got a small vizio for my room from Costco as a gift.

Very happy with it so far!

If you don't need a flat panel go DLP. Great picture clarity and not nearly as expensive as LCD/Plasma. Yes, they're not as sharp but my eyes can't tell the difference

I agree, better picture, and a larger screen.

Something else I thought of was hdmi inputs. I realize the hdmi cables are 30-40$ at wal-mart but new egg sells them for 10$. Since these cables are pure digital the quality doesn't matter. Gold plated etc is just a gimmick. And it's way nice to have ONE cable for you're video AND audio, really makes connections easy. The reason I say watch for them is because each new device needs a separate input. So, DVD is one, HTPC is another add the x-box and most TV's are full......

                3 is the minimum imo....

honestly I'd consider a 42" dlp for 6'+ viewing distance. If you do end up getting a smaller tv because of price, consider sitting a little closer. Heres a chart for a general idea for distance vs tvsize/resolution .

did samsung stop making their 42" DLP model? I just searched for it on a few sites and its gone from big box retailers and amazon. That really sucks if they did.
