I got me a new toy (bang!) hehehe

So we had a gun show here in Richmond this weekend, and I pick myself up a new Bushmaster XM-15. Sorry I don't have any pics at the moment. What the difference between an XM and AR is I haven't a clue lol. It has a 16" barrel and 6 position tele-stock. Unfortunately it doesn't have any picatinny rails, so that is something I'll have to remedy at some point. So does anyone have any suggested add-ons? Are there bolt on picatinny rails that won't require me to completely change the front stock? Anybody have a favorite online retailer for these sorts of things?

And a question for those in the 804, does anyone know of a range that I can shoot both this and my pistol at? The closer to Midlothian or Chester the better. Someplace that won't break the bank, and preferably I can bring my own ammo. It's more for my dad who just bought a pistol and is pretty cheap; he doesn't like to pay for anything he doesn't have to lol.

    Congrats on the new toy!!

There is no major difference. It is a branding thing.

As far as add-ons, add what you like; it's your gun. Everyone has a different taste when it comes to that sort of thing. I like folding front grips and other than that stay purdy basic.

They do make accessories and I think I saw a rail that can bolt on to a stock mil-spec forearm. I forget where I saw some of said accessories, but you should be able to find them.

Sites to watch: Gunbroker.com, AR15.com, JGSales.com, Cheaperthandirt.com, Midwayusa.com, and there are many, many more.

Congrats! A good place to start at is here at this AR15 thread.

Start at about post 6, I think thats what you're talking about? Or by front stock did you mean the hand guards? If so, then I believe you can get those kind of rails from here

The AR15 thread is probably a good thing to read through anyways, it will give you a much better idea of stripping your rifle down. Or it did me at least!

there are differences between manufacturers. for example, Bushmaster does not stake the gas key.

            ORLY?

            Mine is staked rather nicely

Bushmaster is the largest manufacturer of civilian AR15s

Bushie ARs are called XM so as not to upset Colt's lawyers

The main upgrade I recommend is a case of ammo and some rangetime.

The Santose 50 yard IBSZ zero is rather nice to deploy
