    Need Camera Help!

Well im in deep poop*. Me and my friends were making rocket propellant the other day at my friends house and i was filming the process of how we were making them with my moms camera. I let my friend take over the filming while i went to go get a soda. He put the camera down and walked away for one second and the mixture ignited. HI entire house was filled with billows of smoke and a white powder covered everything in his house which . We were up till 3 in the morning cleaning (Good thing hi parents dont get home until tomorrow )

The good new is his house is fine and there is no damage to it or ourselves , the bad news is the lens cover on my mom's camera was melted shut by the heat of the ignition. The camera turns on fine, thank god but it quickly turns off and says that there is a lens error.

Im not sure what i should do, my friend says that we should take it a part, take off the melted lense covers and buy new ones on ebay. Im not sure if there is still a warranty on the camera and i dont want to ask my mom because it seems suspicious. I was thinking of placing the camera near my stove and when she notices its melted to tell her maybe the heat from a hot pan or the stove melted it. That way i dont have to tell her i was messing with explosives and it wont look as it's my fault.

Sorry this is so long but do you guys have any suggestions? THANKS

probably cost like $150 new but im not sure, it was a cannon powershot, just a regular digital camera. Im not sure if there is still warranty though

-tell her you melted it... rocket propellant or otherwise. I cant imagine a "how did my camera get melted" conversation going very well either way.

If you can come up with an Accidental heat source that is within reason I would go with that.

                Otherwise...

"Loose" the camera (ie a public garbage can somewhere).

You were out with your friends and the last place you remember having it was when you were out getting dinner one night. something funny happened, ya took a pic of, and ya must have left it at the resturant. didnt realize ya lost it till the next day, called, and nobody turned it in.

                  thanks

the only problem with "loosing" itis if she DOES have warranty then we could have gotten a new one lol she would have to buy a whole new camera than just getting one for free

unless you have a warranty that COVERS EVERYTHING (additional cost warranty - not the factory warranty) then your screwed with the warranty. and im assuming with the price of the camera and the price of the warranty for that camera. you dont have it. but i could be wrong

just get your mom a new camera, tell her what happened, or at least make up a story about how it got melted. and all will be well, usually parents will be ok if you replace what you broke.

Warranties cover factory defect and worksmanship issues only. They don't cover being an idiot.

So lose the camera and buy a new one.

You could always take it to a local camera shop and ask them if they think it's a simple/cheap fix. Doubtful, but worth a shot.

Because it's always good to lie to the people that gave you life, feed you, clothe you, and keep a roof over your head for free.....

Tell her what happened, take the hit for it, and buy her a new camera. Simple.

...and quit messing with crap in the garage that can kill you, or burn down the house.

yeah just tell her what happened, so you were doing something really stupid in the garage who cares the point to the whole story is you are alive the house is still standing and the only thing that got hurt was her camera which you will try to fix or replace in which case i would still take it apart and try to fix it. whats the worst that could happen? a stern talking to grounding possibly a spanking just take whats coming cause there is nothing better than trying to explain the same lie a few times over
