    Thinking of Big Bores

Ok, I had an offered rejected on a 458 Win Mag (Ruger NO1) which may be a good thing. I found a Ruger No 1 (I really want a Ruger NO 1) in 416 Remington. From what I read it gives you nearly the power of the 458 with nearly the trajectory of a 375. This will be my.... umm, when the 375 isn't big enough rifle. Screw it, its X-mas, I don't have to justify it.

Any opinions on the 416 Remington?

Only that they are good for Christmas.

I understand the Ruger no.1. I understand the 416. The only problem I would have is that anything that needs a 416 needs at least two of them.

Yeh, I looked at some nice doubles.... its the 9K+ price tag. That and if I'm going with a doube its likely going to be in 505 Gibbs for a double, and the one I found was 27K.

ow. I guess that's still proportional to the money you have to pay to get into the spot where you need that much gun.

You know you worked for a defense contractor for too long when your first thought at seeing "Thinking of Big Bores" is "Like 155mm NLOS-C?".

At least you didn't work for a naval ship yard.

I had a chance to shoot a 460 Weatherby once (generating a measly 8000lbs of energy IIRC).... I only shot it once...

That one would make sense as a single shot. It's hard to make a follow up shot when prone...

When one has to take the moment to consider if its worth taking a second shot or just getting trampled by the charging Cape Buffalo the gun probably has too much recoil.
