    Wireless audio

So in my apartment I often sit on my couch and dink around on the internet. My speakers are over on my desk and I would like to still play the music through them instead of the crappy laptop speakers.

Anybody done this before or have any ideas on it?

Apple has their AirPort Express which has an audio out. You can stream to it via iTunes (and perhaps other ways). That's $100 or so. There may be cheaper options that's just what I know of off hand.

      I'd just get a headphone extension cable...pick up a 25' for less than $2 @ monoprice.com

wireless is nice, but sometime its just not really that cost effective for its benefit.

Hmmm 100 bucks is maybe a bit much for what I want right now, once I get my home theater set up that might make sense.

A long headphone cable might make sense actually. Still have to deal with that wire attached to the damn thing though.

Guess I will just have to keep looking around. Seems like there should be something like the airport express that isn't 100 bucks.

Are those speakers connected to a computer? If so, Winamp + some plugin allows for web control, so if the PCs are networked you could do it.

good point. I didnt think to ask if the speakers were already connected to a another computer.

No they aren't. I have a MBP as my main computer. So when it sits on my desk, I just plug my speakers into the headphone port. When I move elsewhere I have to unplug it. So thats where the dilemma arises.

What would be perfect, if there was something that I could just always leave the speakers plugged into no matter where I took my computer. I think that might be the airport express.

I'm not sure I want to spend that much on something that I might not use once I get a LCD and all that goes with it ya know.

Do you often use your laptop in multiple places (and listen to music)? If not (like, it's normally plugged in where the speakers are and the other place you use it a lot is on your couch, for example), consider another set of speakers. Smaller ones that don't suck too much (but of course aren't great) don't go for that much... less than an Airport, at least. If you're all over the place, consider headpones?

If not, how are your speakers set up? Are they very simply just sitting there with a plug waiting for your computer? If they're plugged into some type of amp (like for a home theater), how about an FM transmitter for your laptop? Or, even if they're just sitting there, an FM transmitter + a cheap FM radio might be easier. And wireless. http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/d...PN63A760T1FXZA + http://www.amazon.com/Jxm22Ice-Porta...1184848&sr=1-6 for instance
