AO FRIEND IN NEED??? - need confirmation

Sorry for the caps in the title but I felt this was necessary to draw attention.

Bear with me on this one, as this occurred this morning before my first cup of coffee:

I log on to facebook this morning, and get a message from Sarah, that she's stuck in London (yes England), has been robbed of her money, and is in need of cash for the flight home (no round trip ticket). That sorta situation sucks for anyone, and I'm not one to leave a friend in a situation like that.

BUT... before I go to Western Union and wire a fairly sizable chunk of cash to Sarah so she can fly home, if anyone can confirm that she is indeed the person I'd be sending money to, it would ease a strange gut feeling I've got.

If this is Army's daughter, and she was really robbed, why would she need to send you a message on Facebook for money?

The logical thing would be to pick up the phone and call family and friends IF it were truly the case.

            Rotten in Denmark. Scam.

Lol, now what would be really cool is to post up the contact info they left for London and for all of us to start messing with them...ie where can we send money, or other assorted shens....

I was thinking about sending 2 british pennies, with "feed the birds" as a message...

                  name that classic reference!

Im a bit annoyed with myself over this, yet, glad i went with my gut...

Anyone else ever run into this sort of scam? its a first for me, and I'd never heard of it before on fb or myspace.

Oh i have the address handy... hmm...

It would be better if you send toppins instead of pennies.

Although I don't have a clue what a "toppin" is.

i think its tuppence, for 2 pence, or 2 pennies. though Ive never been to England so that's pure guestimation on my part.

I've found that anything involving western union is typically a scam. Glad you went with your gut...

I'm fine and stuck exactly where I should be, working on getting control of my account though. Facebook isn't really letting me do anything though...

I love that you were half ready to jump to the aid of someone you haven't talked to in years though
                            Such a sham(e).

THis is actually a growing scam, where instead these people call elderly people and talk really soft, the elderly goes is that you 'billy' then billy is there and in jail needing a western union to help him get out etc.
