You need to speak the master, I know all

For high volume speakers, you can't beat the horn loaded ones, like Klipsch. I'll not comment on the quality, but with sensitivity above 100 dB, you're going to get a lot of sound with a little input power.

Just please, for God's sake, stay AWAY from Bose.

I agree with thisk Klipsch is good stuff, infinity sick speakers too, stay waaaaay away from bose, they are just lots of hype and a rip for the money

. If you are on a budget for sure look around, craigslist you can find a decent reciever or some stores like fry's electronics too, same thing for speakers. from either of those places you should be able to put something really good for the 400 bucks. in a basement that would be perfect for a 5 or 6 speaker system. do four small speaker in the corner, a sub on the floor in the center of the room and a center speaker either right above the sub or across the room from the sub. you would be able to hear and feel the music from any where in the room. oh you know what also for the money radioshack has some very decent speakers and recievers, yeah i would have not believed it myself but i walked in there looking for parts and had a listen while there.

As a side note, I buy all my used stuff off Audiogon. Mostly for high end, but some good deals to be had.

He'd be lucky to get some cables off of Audiogon with his budget. Haven't bought anything off of Audiogon yet myself.

Been thinking about a new preamp/processor though it's not a huge rush right now. Got enough speakers for surround sound, but not enough room, especially since I've got some space eating Magnepans. Love the sound, but damn they're big (6' tall, 2' wide).

Ah, maggies, good choice. Bass is a bit off unless you have the really big ones, and placement can be a challenge, but that lush ethereal sound, oh...

Yep. I've got 2.6R's (gotta love that ribbon tweeter) as my mains right now. Nice step up from the MMG's that are gathering dust right now.
