ANOTHER new car question (Mazda 3)

I'm thinking of getting a new car, the reliability of my current car is starting to become suspect, and I'm looking at the Mazda 3 5-door, probably 2009 or 2010. Any known problems or reliability issues that anyone knows of?

First year of a drastic body change. As a rule I tend to avoid those, because they usually haven't quite worked out all the kinks yet.

I haven't looked at their mechanicals yet, so I don't know if they're basically the same as the previous bodystyle, but I expect that they mostly are.

That said, I have a personal beef with Mazda. At least every time I've looked at them I've had horrible experiences with the sales folks. To the point that I had ordered a car, they transferred it, then tried to pull some games with me and I walked away from it.

I think it's worthwile pulling a consumer reports report on the car. They're not the end-all be all, but they ususally have some very useful data.

i owned a ford probe once. ran like a top for at least 200k.

it was basically a mazda 626/mx6.

i'm looking into buying a mazada 3 too.

if you want reliability , try to find an 08 hatch, they have the 2.3 duratec wich is essentially the same engine in my 05 focus except mines a 2.0 liter duratec. i have 95k on my car and never had an issue. i like the new ones but they come with a 2.5 , wich is also in the ford escape i belive , so its a pretty good engine with a little more power over the 2.3 , but i think the 08's look the best. either way you will happy with YOUR decision.

I thought that Mazdas used the same block, but different heads / cams than Fords...
