    Need some help

I've been working on a new website and got stumped on my logo. The problem is the background (the BLACK) in this picture needs to be removed. All I need is the lettering and the swoops. In other words whatever background I put the logo on needs to "show through" the logo.

(Originally the logo was in a pdf file the saved to then jpeg. The pdf picture is very nice but the jpeg is a little funky.)

I would like to change the "swoops" to more of a machined look as if they were done with a ball endmill on a cnc machine. Similar to this but swooped>>

What software would I need to use to edit this?

    First try: Paint.net

Very similar to Photoshop, but free.

You'll need to get the source file for the original image to edit. I'd recommend a layered .psd (Photoshop) file if you can get your hands on it.

Any freelance graphic designer could give you several comps and two rounds of review for three, maybe four hours of billable time.
God....I guess I was probably returning videotapes.

Also. Doesn't the .gif format save it so that you can have a transparent background?

        p.s. sent you an email.

GIF sucks for transparency since a pixel is transparent or not, no alpha value. In addition it's a 256 color indexed format, not a big pallet to work with. PNG is a much better alpha channel support in full 32 bit color.

Luke, are you totally set on that font? I could whip up something in illustrator for you.

Never mind, found the font (Veranda)

            Black Background:

            Transparent Background:

That's just a random size, it's all vector so I could output it whatever size you want.

Does the second one have the white piping around the lettering? (It is going on a dark background.) The swoops are not really what I'm after but I think I can use it withhout them.

It's the same image, just without the black background. I can give you one without the swoops if you want.

Cool. I see it now on my lap top, couldnt see it on the other computer.

                    That would be cool.

Also, could you do that same logo (no swoops) for a white back ground? Change the "customs" lettering to black and on Lukes change the white to black and the black to white?

What do you think, does the white work?

it looks nice and straightforward - one thing i would recommend is getting rid of the oh-so-1998 "best viewed in internet explorer" - especially because I don't see anything that's going to cause any sort of issues in any other browser. Viewed in FF (latest version) and IE side by side and they look the same, except the underlines for the "Products" and "Contact" links were set slightly lower in firefox.

I get complaints all the time about the site not working, IE is the only one that works all the time??

Looks fine in Safari on OSX as well. I can't see anything that would be browser specific.

Firefox, Safari, Chrome, etc... are all pretty similar and standards complaint. IE is wacked, but has a huge market share.
