So, when a doctor says take a few days off..

My fiancee and I were having this discussion last night. Having talked to my doctor on Tuesday he told me I should take a few days off and then go back to doing what I felt was acceptable - mostly because he knew I was going to anyways.

Since this was a running related injury I interpert this to mean take a few days off from running. She takes it to mean take a few days off from work. In fairness I took four hours off yesterday afternoon to rest and recoperate. I am still trying to convince her that a short hike over the weekend is not big deal, its one day in (like 3-4 miles), stay overnight, and hike out.

I am betting he meant running, though dodging calling for clarification.

The more time under light duty you give that break the better off you will be. Especially years down the road from now.

Take care of yourself. It pays off.

As far as work? What do you do? Will your work aggrevate the injury, or do you jockey a computer chair all day?

Most of the time I stand at this here counter and perturb customers . Today I have taken some more time at the desk and some less time out back doing techy supervision. However, I do have to keep myself visible to the techs and customers to a certain degree.

Its not too demanding really. My main concern is being ready for a team 100K relay in three weeks . I know I should take more time off, and will likely regret it later.

Breaks generally take 6 weeks or so to get healed AFAIK, although it is not unusual to see athletes practicing and working on injuries...they have great docs and medicine readily available and are also getting paid millions to play. For the average guy, I would be concerned about the "what ifs" of this injury getting worse. It is something you have to weigh out for yourself, but personally I might suggest you skip this one, and get the rest you need not to make this a continually nagging injury from not being healed properly.

He used the term very minor break From what I understand he was still looking for and not finding a more substantial one. Basically I gather its from my ankle twisting as it rolled. I guess I should call him back at some point and get better clarification. I have already resigned myself to the fact of wearing a brace when running from now on on that ankle.

Clarification: :P He told me to think about it after two weeks. Told me I could try to walk my normal route Monday next week and then do "whatever I felt I could" from there. Of course he also suggested I have a ride available when trying....

Heres my opinion. You seem like an educated and INFORMED individual.

I will spare you my details of past injuries.[half century worth] I will say I have some screws in place. That might explain what folks mean when they ask if I have a loose screw.

Over time your past will take its toll, worse if you dont play it Smart. Ask me I know. I was stupid and didnt listen.

It is far worse to hear the words, I told you so, then to say them. Dont you already know that?

            My advice...............DONT BE STUPID.

            edit.......forgot this.

Bleh, I cancelled off participation in the tournament this weekend. Yesterday things were feeling pretty good, today not so much.

Well, I went hiking Saturday and Sunday, short 3 mile in 3 mile out thing. I did run on it Monday on a very light run. Its not doing that badly really. It won't support itself in turns so I am rather apprehensive about sports or such, and on the "oh thats neat" side I can see a bruise right where the break is.

I should have taken pics when it was big and swollen, now most of the bruising is gone. You can see two thin purple lines running across the front of the ankle though now - about an inch and a half long. Then a bit of bruising here and there around the top of the ankle and down the foot.
