    Poll: Darwinian Evolution

    Hey all,

This year marks Charles Darwin's 200th birthday and the 150th anniversary of his book "The Origin of Species".

So, I'd like to know if you agree, disagree, or don't know enough to decide on the matter of Darwin's Theory of evolution.

This can be a hot debate at times here in the US, so please be civil- but I would like to hear your commentary on the topic along with your vote.

    Thanks, and good day!

I said agree because of two things: one is that Darwinism is consistent with Greek Orthodox teachings so there is nothing prohibiting my doing so in addition to the overwhelming evidence, also--and more importantly--you neglected to make "I like pie." an option. Had I had the pie option, that would have been my answer.

      EDIT: Also, IBTL

I'm not sure what this all means. Would you mind clarifying your statements?

          agree because....

this is why the thread will fail

I cannot give an explanation without offending others beliefs. Maybe I can say "because I like evolution more than other choices" and that wont offend anyone, but the moment someone tries to justify their response, this thread will be doomed.

            I got it covered...

agree because the alternative is garbage, lacking logic, and lacking actual scientific evidence (contrived and purposefully misinterpreted "evidence" does not count)

sorry (sorta) if you believe in illogical unsupported garbage

what do you mean by adaptation?

doesnt the belief in adaptation inherently lead to the belief in evolution?

Say the globe cools dramatically, you adapt by going under ground....but the best borrowers will now be the most likely to survive and reproduce. In other words, change and adaptation to change would be one cause of evolution.

Yes, hence natural selection and evolution of "successful" species over time.

Evolution as in a species adapting to it's environment, is clearly proven time after time.

Evolution as in the creation of a new species, not proven. In this I'll take the belief of creationism, much more sensible than "organisms just happen"

Also, evolution and the big bang theory are two totally different things. Evolution is the theory of how life changes over time, not how it began.

I think we all missed the point here... I say again:

Correct. Big bang for the start of our universe as we know it, Abiogenesis for how life started on earth, evolution for how life changes over time.

Ok...I'll try this: A genetic mutation actually enhancing an organism instead of making it weaker? Sounds like a good movie...I'll call it X-Men...yeah. -_-
