        Try this first...

Then if that doesnt work go to... Tools > Options

Hope that works. If not LMK!

Another question, how do I get rid of the white parts of my drawings? I've tried to select them individually but the program won't allow it. Is there anyway to clean it up?

Thats a preformance issue. You might be able to go to= Tools>options> system options tab>preformance>curvature generation and set that higher.

Other than that look into a graphics card.

...unless you modeled your curves with straight lines.

                Where is the lighting control?

I've seen it before but don't remember where.

                  Red ellipse this time.

Click on it and it will open up the lights. It has an ambient and two spots usually. You can position the spots, and add more I believe.

Select each light and you can manipulate its position, color, and intensity.
