Yes, it's a very bad thing. Don't confuse a simple fluctuation or downturn with a depression. -
Nope it wpuld have been just as bad.Originally posted by drgDo you really believe John McCain and Sarah Palin would be more effectively dealing with the incredibly poor situation Bush left? There's a good chance we'd be in full blown depression right now.
Thats why i voted for the real hope for America Ron Paul!Comment

History shows us that the way out of severe economic issues are large government spending programs, so to be honest if you are against the false enemy of "entitlement", you should really be hoping for economic stability.Originally posted by vf-xxOh I dunno, nothing like snapping us out of our 'entitlement' like things goign to hell in a handbasket.Comment

As a broad comment:
I tend to try to avoid skewing heavily in either direction. Bush wasn't Hitler, and Obama isn't Stalin. 90% of the issues we face as a country have no implicit or explicit connection to the Right/Left debate.
This is and has been a center-right country. Yes, we are progressing towards a more European style "social democracy". Yes, there are economic implications.
However, compared to Europe, the US is still less encumbered by entitlements, more rewarding of entrepreneurs, and in a better economic position.
This is still where people aspire to come to be free, to work, and to build something.
/as an aside, tried to explain the concept of 'liberalism' vis a vis 'economic/classical liberalism' to a British friend we would consider 'hard right'. Lot of head shaking going on in that conversation.God....I guess I was probably returning videotapes.Comment

I'm a little delinquent on my American History reading lately, but when was the last time we let the market take it's course instead of huge spending from government?Originally posted by drgHistory shows us that the way out of severe economic issues are large government spending programs, so to be honest if you are against the false enemy of "entitlement", you should really be hoping for economic stability.Stay Classy, AO...BEO: RIP / Topgun Paintball: RIP / Old MCB: RIPComment

Seem that right now 100% of our governments discretionary budget is social programs ( SS, medicare, medicaid etc.) That's 60% of our overall budget...has anyone bothered to check at what point income tax will no longer cover the interest on our national debt? How long till we face the same situation Greece is facing?
Look no one is claiming that republicans can it right all of the time. The truth is that neither party has been doing their job for a while. But saying " it's ok to spend because the republicans did" is trying to make two wrong equal a right. That logic is flat out idiotic...which is where I draw my opinion for the average dem right now.Comment

Hush Pyro. In "reality based governing" we ignore any reality that does not support our idealogy. It leaves us with big holes in "reality" but these serve us best to demonstrate why we are the only "reality" based party."Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better.
