    Driving - being one with the lead foot

    Like the title? I do....anyway, march 1st(today) i have been driving exactly one month, and a few days ago my mom got very mad at me. You see i have my mother's foot as she words it, i am a speed fiend, and I dont even mean to be, it comes natural. My story is, i was going down a busy road and turn off onto a side road, and i see a cop had pulled someone over, so i am driving, i feel im doing fine speed controlling the car(wasnt checking speedometer.) Then i hear my mom yell, SEEAAANNN!!! and i look down, im goin 70 MPH, then im like WHOA, then i see the speedlimit sign....35.....

    Then theres the time i blew the yield sign and nearly rammed another car, that was interesting....Also when i was checking my left blind spot and somehow got into the right line nearly smashing another car.

    Lesson be learned, if you are ever within the Palm Beach County vicinity be very careful, i am a nutso driver(the car im driving my mom bought 1 day before i got my permit, new, so im using a BRAND NEW CAR)
    My next goal is to learn to drive a manual, but since we only got an explorer and minivan, and my moms the only one who can drive a stick...things arent looking good.

      oops... similar experience...

      Right out of my list of stupid things ive done in my life...

      (1) 130-140mph on I-80 for 40 miles with angry brothers chasing us when I was pledging.

      (2) 120mph in a 30mph zone...

          I once made it from Laredo, Tx. to San Antonio, Tx. in a 98' Ford Mustang GT in an hour and 15mins (it's 155 miles away)

              tut tut tut

              It's not big and it's not clever...

              Who me? Crash a ride on lawn mower straight through a conservatory... missing the main support structures on either side by an inch but taking out the glass panes...

              Who me? ride a go-kart straight through a solid 6 foot fence into the neighbours garden pond...

              Who me ? getting stopped by the police at 104mph (I was slowing down after coming up the brow of a hill) and getting away with it.

              Who me? slide a car round a roundabout and into the guard railing... Twisting the whole vehicle chasis.

              Who me? Hold the record from my village to the nearest town...

              Who me? averaging over 100mph from home to Uni (which was about 120 miles away.

              Who me? Have a head on collision that almost killed me and other people?

              With my reputation? Yes.

              I learnt the hard way to respect vehicles and speed and the danger that they are. I almost killed myself and several others. It affected me and many others and is still a major influence on my life. I am lucky to be alive. After my accident caused by speeding a friend rolled his car and got away with it. We told another crazy friend of ours to slow down and be careful. He didn't and later on that year he lost his car on a corner and hit another car killing one of the passengers.

              I used to think I was invincible at driving and had a lot of experience having been driving for 3 years off road before I started driving on roads at 17. Most of my motoring accidents were amusing till my major crash. A vehicle is an extremely dangerous weapon and it needs to be treated with respect.

              There are very few things in my life that I regret, speeding and risking someone elses life through my stupidity is one of them.

                  amen, when I look back on it it truely is the 2 stupidest things I could have done. I could have put alot of people at risk.

                      Considering you have only had your license a month, you have no business driving at those speeds. No one really does, but considering your lack of experience its twice as bad.

                      I used to drive around 100 all the time on the highway... until I got my first ticket. Driving 70 in a 35 is inexcusable. 100 in a 65 is pretty bad, I'll admit, but 70 in a 35 is crazy.

                      Now I usually stick pretty close the speed limit except on a few rare occassions.

                          yea...

                          I ran a red and got t-boned, almost killed my sister, she was in the passenger seat, never run red lights they are red for a reason.

                              Ahh another quaint anomoly of the brits... "Roundabouts".

                              ...and driving on the wrong side of the road...

                              Personally I can't stand "traffic circles" I find them highly annoying to drive on.

                              I crashed a riding lawnmower into my dads car when I was 14 boy was he "pissed".

                              I can't wait till my passport gets renewed. Watch out London Butterfingers is coming! So much to learn there. Honestly I would die of laughter if I heard sombody say they want a flaming "cigarette"

                              Unfortunately, the way things work in the United States is you fill out a form at the post office. It sits in a box for 6 weeks. Then they finally take it out and process it. Then it sits in a box for another 6 weeks then they decide to send it back to you.

                              Grr... so much for Ireland/GB for spring break. Airfare was only $400 round trip!!!

                                  Well, I have the Same problem. Well kinda. I like to go fast, dont get me wrong, but I like to see how fast I can get from 0-the speed limit. I love tring to go that fast in my Dad's Dodge Ram. You have a 360 V8 under the hood so you know if you stop, then floor it you will peal out so I have a fun time doing that. With my Sisters Ford Contour I like racing it like a rally car, going down 45mph back roads going 75-80ish...but I dont like to speed

                                      i stopped driving fast when i realized in a couple years ill have to bring my driving record to my interview. 2 speeding tickets and i could easily not get hired. 3 and forget it. or so ive heard. id rather not be twidling my thumbs for a couple years after college waiting for speeding tickets to drop off my record.

                                          I hear that. My favorite thing used to be passing people on a double-lined road. However, one night I passed some guy, and he tailgated me ALL OVER TOWN. At one point I took it up to 120 in a 50 in an attempt to ditch him, but he stayed with me. So I started darting and weaving around all of the obscure back roads, but he remained right on my bumper. I was freaked out, so I pulled into a friends's driveway. He (she??) stopped on the street and waited, as if he was calling my bluff. I got out of the car, and walked to the door; all the while expecting to feel hot lead colliding with my back. However, once the door opened and I stepped inside, he took off. I don't think I'll be passing people anymore.....
