    No More Ebay !

Sold something on Ebay for $715.00 plus $25.00 shipping.

Ebay charged me $51.00 for the use of their site.

    Paypal charged $21.76.

    Shipping cost me $28.77.

Its kind of tough to swallow paying more than 10 percent (Ebay and Paypal) to
    a company to sell something.

I havent sold anything much lately on Ebay.
But I know it didnt used to cost that much.

It was an eye opening experience.
Guess I'll stick to the forums or Craigslist from now on.

Ebay is their own worst enemy. The writing is on the wall for them.

Man, you should call your local PD and file a report for rape.

One thing I used to do was pad the price of shipping. So something that would cost like $5-10 to ship I would put $40 shipping. I know its against the ebay rules but they don't tax you on shipping cost so I didn't eat it as hard.

Good luck with padding the shipping costs. If ebay doesnt send you a warning or kill your listing for excessive shipping (yes, they do this, its happened to me) then the 3 zillion emails from buyers saying "Hey, I want to buy your item, but your shipping is way to high" will make you just dump the listing and go somewhere else to sell it.

Ive got two rules for using Ebay:

                      Only purchase BNIB items.
                      Dont sell anything. Ever.

                      And Ive never been disappointed.

Not for nothing, but you were shown the exact fee structures on eBay when playing your listing, and PayPals are well known..

If you sell items on EBAY for a living their fees are not so bad at all..

Ebay- takes 10% of cost ( fast sales, international customer reach, no overhead)
Consignment- takes 30-50% of sale price ( local only, slow sales depending upon item)
Brick and Mortar shop= (lots of bills with low percentage returns and dealing with idiots all day)

I'm not going break it down any further but explore your retail/resell options and EBAY fees don't look so bad when you look at all the fees ($) associated with selling product via the other options..

Now if you sell here and there for $, I would only use ebay if I needed something gone fast and If you don't want to deal with the hassle of meeting up with people and then dealing with them( if you ever bought or sold used goods in person, there can be a lot of negotiotion which is very annoying)

If you don't need the money right away, you can save yourself some fees and added costs by holding out and waiting for the "right buyer" that is willing to pay full price.

Weigh out the pro's and con's of all options before dismissing any of them..

In the end TIME IS MONEY!!!

If you spend 10 minutes listing something and packing it, and happen to get 50 dollars less ( due to fees) isn't that better than investing from 1 hour up to 10 hours of your personal time trying to get rid of something you don't want anymore?

I know not everyone will agree with my view, but I hope it sparks some thought!

                          cheers!

This with only one exception if you can't find it anywhere else then used in an acceptable risk. And by "anywhere else" I mean even if it costs a whole lot more, at least you have recourse. With ebay omission of information is the buyers fault.

ebay is killing itself, give it a few years and it'll be like MS paying Verizon to force Android phones to use Bing instead of google search. This btw is not made up.
