Comcast woes...

Just made the dreaded switch from Verizon internet to Comcast... Used to just have Comcast cable, but it saves $1600/year so why not, right?

Now I'm getting constant 403 and 404 errors from Google, Ebay and even my beloved AO (but other sites will work fine at the same time). They come and go. Also having pages load without some or all pictures, and missing formatting. This is on all devices (cellphone, tablet, netbook, notebook, hardwired gaming PC, etc) using everything from IE to Firefox.

I'm thinking their DNS server is garbage and I might switch to googles, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue, and if so what was your fix?

Try www.opendns.com You can add exclusions to the list to block sites you don't want.

I have determined that after being a customer of ATT, Comcast, Time Warner, and a few other services...

... that when I build or purchase a home, it will be in a neighborhood serviced by Verizon FIOS, and I will never look back.

Seriously every other service sucks, and I'm sure there are areas that FIOS does too, but I had it for two years and it only went down once when lightning fried the router, and Verizon over -nighted us a new one.

Clear our your cache, cookies, history, etc...then resetting your router. Unplug it for 10 seconds then plug it back in. This should fix your issues.

If you have some kind of security setup on your computer. Disable it and try again. Could be your antivirus or something along those lines messing with it.

I've only really had luck with charter and verizon... Verizon was the first docsis 3.0 standard Service Providers out of the lot of them, so connections were bar none at the beginning when comparing anything to verizon, but since then charter has followed example and is picking up the slack...

If I were you i'd make sure my modem/router is docsis 3.0 compatible and make sure you're matching the standard of your service provider, because unless you pay extra for a docsis 3.0 modem from your provider, they'll give you the standard 2.0 knowing full well it'll give you probs in the long run regardless of connection speed your'e paying for...

Agree. Been using them for over 12 years and never had an issue.

I've switched to Google, and it works fine... Like I said, their DNS server is ******.

I'm seriously considering going back to Verizon though.

LOL and no.

Firefox on my Windows machine and Linux machines, ASUS stock browser on my Transformer Prime, and I also tried Opera. Now it constantly asks if I'd like it to install a crapload of random "Comcastic" browser upgrades and I say... no.

I tried just about all of them and keep coming back to Firefox.

On the phone I've tried about all of them and I keep going back to the stock Android browser.

I bet if you clear out the cache, history and cookies...Your FF will work fine.

Naw, the standard Comcast DNS server is screwy. I switched to Googles public DNS (8.8.8.8 v 8.8.4.4) and have not had problems since. Apparently it's had local problems (and problems elsewhere) for a few years since they tried to replace you standard error screens with craploads of advertisements.

And yeah, I've tried most conventional and a few unconventional browsers and I have stuck with Firefox (an older build, with my own updates) and the stock Android browser, or the fancy ASUS one. I'm not a browser snob, I've just never had good experiences with Internet Explorer or Safari. I tested the Gen1 Macbook in 2005 and I had issues with Safari, I also was able to test the CR48 in early 2010 and found that while the OS was a joke the browser was usable but not my style. I always go back to Firefox, and I'm cool with Opera too - we've all got style preferences but some (very few) browsers are just inferior.
