Army - I wouldn't argue with your point of view there, but there are a few things you are missing.

First off, the fact that we, as a country, would need to be reminded very 6 months of something so tragic boggles my mind. Its a sad commentary on the state of our nation.

Second, I doubt the motivations of the networks. Seems to me its just a ratings ploy at a time when CBS is slumping.

Third, I have heard that the majority of the families of the victims did NOT want this special aired. They felt it was too soon. How would you feel if you lost a wife or son in something like this, only to see them on TV in a "special" 6 months later? They are trying to do their best to forget this and put thier grief behind them. (Forget thier loss, not the attacks). Putting up this special this soon after the attacks, going against their wishes, is terrible.

Restola, I'm reminded of it every time I look at NYC and see a huge chunk of skyline missing. Thats EVERY SINGLE morning. Do you think I need CBS to remind me more?

Are you not reminded of it every time you watch the news about our troops in Afghanistan?

Every time you hear the words "al Qaida" or "Taliban"?

Every time you see an image of Bin Laden?

Don't tell me we needed to be reminded of it any more. It is part of our lives now, as you said, which is precisely why that show was totally unnecessary.

You can sit there and argue "these people were heroes and should be honored" all you want, but from what I hear, this is just over the top. Honoring them is telling stories about thier lives, not showing videos of it as it happened. I find it tasteless. It really angers me. A lot of people who live around me share the same opinion, I asked around during the past week.

Thordic, I agree with much that you said. I live in Queens and was involved with the volunteer effort over at the temporary base of operations in Jersey City, right on the waterfront.

I think, however, that yuo either deny or fail to recognize the second, and extremelly valuable, effect of these "specials"

They remind people of what happened and help to keep us focused on what happened and what we need to do to prevent this from happening again.

While it was nice to see Congress singing altogether just a few days after the attack they are back to the old ways again.

The thing I dont agree with about Shartley and Thordic's statements is how they keep saying "we". What you should really be saying is "I". If you dont want or need or simply cant emotionally handle another god forsaken memorial show (which i absolutly agree has been over done) then simply dont watch. Clearly someone is watching these things and it may be helping them in some way or else it would cease to be profitable and they wouldnt be on any more.

The fact that you dont need or want to be reminded is great, but there happens to be 281 million other people in this country and some of them are watching these shows. Some of them may want to be reminded, heck some may even need it. As each of us pass through our different stages of greiving for the loss of life we shouldnt be so quick to pass judgement what others need or can or cant do to help themselves.

I do not feel that having pride in your country is a bad thing. I just feel that there are many people who are proud of America only because it is the "in" thing to do. This is what upsets me. For those who have always been a supporter of America, and those who will continue to do so, I am very proud. Those people who will let their newfound American pride pass the next time taxes are raised or a new law is passed, I give a giant *EDIT* Despite the topic and emotions, watch the language. Army off, and my hopes that they leave the country. I hope you did not take my previous post to mean that I was anti-american, or against showing pride in your country. I only wanted to state my disgust in the way some people act, pretending to actually care only because everyone else is doing it.

Maybe the reason we dont want to see it, is perhaps, it meant something. I do not care what you say, or how you say you feel, the fact is, you are people. Naturally people will not give a damn about what happened in some other state....

You people werent there(for the most part) and i doubt many of you have relatives/friends who died in the attacks. So would u guys shut up telling us what we do and do not want....what we do and do not need to see. Claiming we have emotional distress issues? Yea well when the kid who has sat next to you your whole life, finds out both his parents are now dead...your life kinda changes.

Also i can understand Chris's point as well, no one down here in Florida(in august) said anything good about new york. They are all like, your from NY? what a dirty place, its full of nothing but crackheads and hookers. I think NY is disgusting.... Ever since Sep 11th, i have heard nothing but good things about NY, and it sickens me, these people acting patriotic because its the thing to do. I have always prided myself from being from this country and being from NY(check the name, pre sep 11th..) Everyone is such a phony it isnt even funny. With the exception of members of the armed services, no one cares. Someone in California doesnt care about WTC unless it somehow directly took something away from their life, thats the way people are, and maybe, MAYBE there are a few exceptions here on AO, but the majority doesnt give a rats ***.

Restola's comment about totally ignore it and dont watch the show. Do not be telling people what to do, when you have no idea what the hell they are feeling. If someone wants to learn more about 9/11...there are computers, newspapers, and even more resources. These ploys are just attempts to get shows more ratings, and to get more people to be "patriotic" If our country needs shows of death to be patriotic, we are not as good a nation as we think.

Freedom is somehting they lose, but they dont(on the average) feel bad for those who had to be there, or those who lost someone...

I think it's ignorant and very selfish of you to say these things! Do you think that ONLY people from NY are allowed to care about what happened to the WTC? What the hell kind of logic is that? Maybe you've since forgotten, but there were also two other tragic events that day: 1. The Pentagon was attacked; 2. An airplane crashed in Pennsylvania. The WTC is only on the forefront of everyone's mind because it is the one with the most impact, but that does not make it the most important!
All of these things need to be looked at as a whole instead of as just pieces. How many people from other countries and states were in the WTC on business, vacation, or educational purposes? How many Californians died when one of those planes, bound for California, struck the WTC? It wasn't only NYers who were affected. Don't be so caught up in your own anger. It's not the media you should be mad at. Like it was said before, if you didn't want to be reminded, then you didn't have to watch the special.

If it is all about you NYers not needing to be reminded about what happened, then why construct a memorial that will be seen everyday?

People have stated good opinions here and to say one is better than another is just a waste of time. No one has really stated the fact that through out the show they mentioned funds to go to help people out that were effected directly by this. If you feel it was to soon can't you appreciate the fact some money was raised to help people. That maybe people that took their loved ones for granted realized that in a second they could be gone, and to make sure they show their feelings more often.
