OK guys. I use my pocket knife as a daily utility device. Well sadly my 10 year old knife is falling apart from use and abuse. These 2 knives are what I'm looking at. But I've never used or had a quick opener. So any of you guys with experience. What's your thoughts?

I highly recommend kershaw. Best knives I have ever used. I have taken them all over the country with me and beat them to hell and back never had a failure. They have a really nice opening system that you can flick with your index finger. The spring is a torsion bar that can easily be serviced and cleaned if you have gotten stuff in there. I personally carry the kershaw scallion with me daily, I am on my second one. My first one just made the transition to staying in my backpacking bag all the time so I bought a new one.

You will love the assisted opening though as long as you get a quality knife

^I second that awesome knives love the easy flick of the finger to bring the blade out. Great quality knives.

Kershaw was the other brand I'm shopping. I'll get a few models of them up in a minute I'm looking at. My big concern with any of the assist blades is that they will get dirty and cause issues. Or get nocked open in my pocket. I went from a 3-1/4 blade to the 2-3/4 I have now. And have missed the bigger blade ever since. So 3-1/4 to 3-1/2 is my ideal blade. And an AL Handel.

I personally carry a kershaw wild turkey single blade most of the time. While its not assisted in any way is has held up great. I also carry a smith and wesson M&P assisted folder it is a little chunky but it also hold up very well. I have used it to pry open paint cans pop holes in the can of juice for my boy skin at least one deer and butcher several rabbits (not in that order). Although the pocket clip did break but it fits in my pocket comfortably and just plain works.

The kershaw knives cannot get knocked open then have a small slide lock made from an allen socket screw to prevent that. I use the scallion which is a small knife but I use it to do big knife things all the time and it handles it so well. With the reversed scallop serrations no other knife will touch it. They come in an all aluminum version as well. I spend my entire day in a shop with powder and dust everywhere. I have never had it fail to open at anything slower than an instant snap. It sees work inside my large blasting cabinet which means it is seeing serious amounts of abrasive media made to tear finishes off metal, it gets used to open bags of powder, I get ceramic on it, I have used it tearing down bikes for work. I even use it like a screw driver. Never a chip in the blade or failure to cut. It is probably smaller than you want but I would still consider it, it handles much different than any other small knife I have used.

That is the kind of environment and use mine get. Along with opening popcicles and eating dinner. Haha. Total multi use tool.

Take a look at 'Zero Tolerance'... It's a brand under Kershaw. It's worth checking out.

I ended up buying the crkt shenanigan knife. (53 bux shipped on ebay new). I couldn't find a Kershaw with a metal handle. And among other things the handle ends up being used for a light duty hammer on softer items. So I'm partial to the metal Handel's. Kershaw had some blades I really liked though. May buy one later on down the road. Also went with the one I did because I just couldn't bring myself to buy a spring loaded knife yet for daily use.

I picked up a Benchmade 710 in M4 steel when there was a limited production run several years ago. I love the slightly recurve blade shape and the blade length. You can still get a 710 new, but probably only in CPM 154 or D2 steel.

I have a benchmade mini-griptillian with a d2 blade and it is one of my favorite knives I've ever owned. I have had quite a few kershaw, buck, spyderco and crkt knives. The benchmade has just fit me beat and the blade shape is a great all around design.

I bought my kershaw with a solid aluminum handle for $30 on ebay brandy new, instead of the $80 retail price.

Hmmmm. Interesting. I was searching kershaw and never found any with AL handles. I generally don't hit eBay till I've decided what I wanted.

Them benchmades look nice. Wow they are pricey.
