when you go to hockey games, you take a risk of being hit by the puck. just like when you play paintball you take the risk of your tank blowing up, or your mask falling off and being shot in the eye. at hockey games, they also warn you about pucks leaving the rink...
that is very unfortunate about her...

I know a few people who work for the NHL and at a major hockey arena, and I asked this question once before and the answer that I was given was a load of crap in my eyes. I was kindly informed that if netting was to go up completely around the rink, it would cause a problem for the spectators, by impairing the view of the ice, and the cost to put it up and to make the modifications to the arenas wouldn't be worth it. Basically what it came down too was that the arena didn't want to spend the money, to make it safer, and they would have people complainign about the netting blocking their view of the ice surface. Hopefully that answers your question as to why netting isn't put up.Originally posted by Snooky

I guess its kind of like airplanes.
Sure one crashes every now and then but people still go on them.
This accident was preventable but a lot of plane crashes are too. The difference is that airlines do their best to keep the passengers safe. The NHL seems like they could care less and that this was inevitable.
Also plane crashes can never be stopped totally but this can be and the NHL just has to be the one to make that decision...

Zach...you obviously don't play hockey or go to hockey games...I for one wouldn't go to a hockey game with a big net obstructing my view and noone else would either. By going to a hockey game, you are assuming a level of risk just like if you get hit by a foul ball at a baseball game, you can't sue. Same here. The only person who could have prevented this was the girl who wasn't paying attention. Unfortunate but you know what they say. *Stuff* happens.--------------------------------------
