    Linux Advice Needed (X-Windows...)

    To All the Linux Gurus...
I am getting an older laptop from my old man (he said if I fixed I could have it!). It's a Pentium 200 with 32mb of ram... Anywho, I was going to throw a copy of RedHat on it, as I am a geek and would like to learn it. On to the question...

Should I install KDE or GNOME as my shell? I have used one of them a year ago or so, and thought it was impoossible to use. I'm no computer idiot either. I'm A+ and Net+ Certified, a Certified Novell Engineer in NetWare 5, and plan to finish my MSCE and CCNA this year.

    Thanks for the Help,

Either one is fine... matter of taste. Try them both.

kde is closer to windows sort of, gnome is cooler looking i think. go to redhats site or anther linux site and check the video chipset against the list of x servers in the distribution, some chipsets dont have a server yet. as its an older laptop this shouldnt be a problem but i have an old 266 with an mpact chipset and there isnt an x server for it so i have to run at the console on that system, no x. the hardest part of a linux install is getting x up in my opinion, but with the newer distributions even that is getting easier.
      linux/unix is very cool, enjoy!
