Help me settle a stupid bet

Anybody who lives in Texas and knows the laws, or someone who doesnt live in Texas and know the laws for some reason knows that you have to have insurance to drive legally. For this law to be possible insurance companies have to cover you by law. Now the way this works is if your a crazy bastard who runs people over all the time insurance companies dont wanna cover you so they split up your coverage between other insurance companies. Im pretty sure this is right but he thinks it isnt soo does anybody know for sure or knwo where i can find out? I know its dumb but we gotta settle this, I have a whole 5 dollars on the line here.

Okay, here's how it works. I know because I worked in the insurance business for waaaaay to long. If you're one of these crazy mo-fo's who is runnign people over and trying to get insurance, the company you go through has to either accept you or deny you coverage. THEY CANNOT ACCEPT YOU AND SELL BITS A PIECES OF YOUR POLICY TO MULTIPLE COMPANIES It's either all or nothing. The only way that your insurance can be changed to another company is if and ONLY IF the company that you are insured through is purchased by another underwriting company or you cancel your policy with a company and go with someone else. I hope this helps settle the bet.

When you are a really bad driver paying the fine is cheaper than getting the insurance.

Langrage, thanks that exlpanation helped alot, what you said about transfering that is what i mean i just didnt put it as well as you did, but i didnt know they traded i thought they just did it because they had to accept the people.

My thinking in this was that if the law is that you have to have insurance then the insurance companies have to cover you (granted they can make the premiums extremely high) otherwise if you were in trouble for not having insurace you could just say nobody accepted me so thats why i dont have it.. and since the insurace companies have to cover you they would want to split up the cost which is what Langrage explained... if that makes any sense
