Any general aviation pilots around here?

Just wondering if anyone here is licensed or perhaps is looking at getting their license.

    The Master

I am a licensed aircraft pilot, slowly working on becoming a professional pilot and I am an aircraft maintenance technician. I currently work for Continental Express in Newark New Jersey as a tech on their fleet of EMB-145 and ATR-42 aircraft.

I was going to get my license this summer... (big plan I had open-water diving certification last summer, pilot's this summer, then work on becoming a master diver after I had enough dives under my belt in a few summers, helicopter pilot's license whenever I got the chance...) Unfortunately, due to the fact I had to drop a class this semester due to lack of study time for it, I'm having to take some summer classes, and that will cost me almost $1000, so alas, no pilot's license for me this summer. I'm probably going to try to get it next summer, though I may still go talk to some of the training schools in my area this summer and see what all is involved, etc. It's always been a dream of mine, and I am going to get it just as soon as I can...

Cool. Have you ever given any thought to attending a flight school of some sort? I graduated from the University of North Dakota (THE best flight school in the world) a few years back. It was my dream to become a professional pilot. Got my Privat SEL, Commercial SEL,Instrument Rating, CFI, and CFII. I started multi-engine training but decided to stop...it was $4/min!!

After I graduated, I flight instructed for the school. That is where I learned that I didn't want to have a career as a pilot. I haven't flown in a long time.

I was just curious if there were any other pilots out here. I love to talk flying...aerodynamics (of airplanes), cool flights, approaches, etc.

That is a possible career for me, I plan on doing an Intro flight at my airport this summer for 50 bucks they take you up into a plane and show you all the stuff, and you even get to fly it. Then in the summer I am getting in a mini class where they teach you the basics, and I think it's going to be great.

Hell, I am only 14, so I can't really afford all the big stuff yet. I also want to start diving! Geez DaosBeoulve we have the same interests. What's a master diver these days? I saw Men of Honor and a master diver was like the highest rank in deep sea diving?

My dad is taking flight school right out of the Old Town Airport up here in Maine. He used to have his license back when he was just out of college, but i guess he didn't have time to do it anymore. And just this past fall he decided to start all over with his certifications. I can't wait until he can actually fly me around...It will be a lot of fun i think.

I'm currently a student pilot. I've met all the requirements for my licence I just need to take the damn written test. I'm just looking at it as a fun thing to do in between sailing and scuba diving and motorcycling. Oh yeah and paintball.

Writtens are always the easiest....thanks to Irvin Gleim (may have spelled his name wrong)

Oral exams are pretty easy also.

The flights were always the trickiest for me....you have to get everything right the FIRST time.

                    Good luck on your written.

Well, I'm not comletely sure all the requirements to be a master diver. I'm going to talk to the guy that taught me (Bob at Gulf Coast Divers) who is a Master Diver and see what all is required. I'm going to get my nitrox certification this summer, almost right after I go back home so when I start diving I can use it for my shallow dives. I'd like to go ahead and get my advanced open water certification, but I just don't know if I'll have the money for that this summer... I just wish I could be home diving right now....lol I do know that Bob does all types of Diving, and companies regularly hire him and another guy that works with him to go work on rigs and everything else out in the gulf. I wouldn't want to be into all that, but it would be nice to have a job on the side one day training divers...

As for as aviation school--can anyone throw some costs at me for everything involved in getting a general aviation license? As much as I've looked into it, I haven't ever been able to find out how much it costs. Thanks in advance for that...

At the Univeristy of North Dakota...a Privat SEL would cost around $5000. At a local FBO, you could probably get it for around half that.

from a student pilot who has gone through ground school at both part 141 and part 61 schools i will have to say that the extra $2500 is well worth it if you are planning on pursueing a career. a university that is part 141 may also make you eligible for financial aid that your local FBO cant get.

part 141 has stricter more regulated training (everytime we want to go outside and have class (yeah right) our teacher quotes the FARs concerning the "learning environment") and may be what you want to look for. if you have any previous flight time though part 141 may be an inconvenience because you must complete all lessons and fly the full time for the course.

anyways i have 5 more lessons/flights, then a couple hours of extra time to fly off and then i'll be ready to take the tests for my ppl.

the cost at kent state for private pilot is $4,449. what kicks butt here (and other places too im sure) is the final checkride can be given by certain CFI's who work here. in other words no creepy/scaring/angry FAA examinar

and blazingace thats cool that you work for continental. my mom and stepdad both work there. my stepdad does all the different kinds of maintenance on the large jets at hopkins.

I did go thru ground school, but I had a horable teacher and I didn't study as much as I should have, and I didn't pass the final . But I was given the chance to make it up for free, but I relized I didn't have the money or time to fly (now). Maybe I will do it later, maybe a career, hell, maybe this summer I'll try again if i have the money.
