Someone with navigation or military experience please respond

What exactly is a "click". If I were to say that something was located 3 clicks north of my current location, what does that mean?

A "click" is a kilometer unless otherwise specified. If something is 3 "clicks" north of your position; it is 3 kilometers to the north.

If I may ask, what do you need this for?

General knowledge. I just heard it used in a movie and wanted to know what it was.

The other "military" use of click, is to refer to how far you move the mechanical action of you rifle's sights.

If you are shooting 1" low, you would move your sight 4 "clicks" up.

Oldsoldier.... I must agree with you on that observation. I was always really good at land nav but I hated it. Move a little, check your compass, move a little more. Took forever. I guess with GPS it's a lot easier now. Sure wish we had it when I was doing it. Always seemed to be uphill all the time too....

That's funny, man. Haven't heard that in a long time. Actually, I was reading the "official" instructions on how to use my iron sights on my rifle and it used that term. 4 clicks on my rifle is a heck of a lot more then an inch though.
