And who said the anime they're showing was meant for kids? Tenchi seemed to be more of an adult comedy when I watched the japanese version...Originally posted by Rueben_the_wanderer

DBZ is awsome. Yes its alittle hollow on the plot but it is still kewl. The transformations and power levels are just really kewl.
The transfomation to SSJ3 is awsome I just saw goku do it against majin boo. I have morpheous and have some videos of DBZ. Some really sweet ones too acouple of people made up music videos with DBZ footage. And I have 2 with goku and vegeta going SSJ4 talk about a bad a## transformation.Comment

Yeah, I know. On that note, I thought I might mention the fact that just about all anime either IS for kids, or are simply assumed to be for kids.Originally posted by FooTemps

Most kids can't stomach stuff like jin roh or X. Most kids can't get headaches from watching lain. Most kids can't and won't ever understand NGE...Originally posted by Rueben_the_wanderer

There's a whole world of anime that wasn't meant for kids but was adapted for kids...

Isn't it annoying that anime is blankenly treated as childish, just because it's animated? On premium channels, they're starting to show more anime, such as ninja scroll, ghost in the shell, etc. As anime worms it's way into popularity, people will see the entire genre of anime, and not just kids stuff. DBZ sort of gives a bad name to anime as a whole, only because it seems to be the most prevelant example of it.Originally posted by FooTemps

I don't know hte actually dats but i think DB (the kiddie original) started in 89.... DBZ was started work on in 92 or around there, up to the Freiza (sp) sage,.... if you notice.. all the voices change after the sayian > frieza switch and they all get really crappy. Then when the Trunks saga (not very many episodes) came along all teh voices were replaced and most sounded either original or close to it. (or better). I haven't seen the show in about six months.. except for the ones on weekends.. and at night.. i try to stay up with the ones i havent seen.
The movies were around 94-95 ish.
If you have never seen DBZ, your missing out. Yea, its long, it gets boring, but it's worth it in the end. And they are coming out with a live-action movie which BETTER have some shweat *** special effects in it.. It will be hard to top the success of the series as it is now. I might just haev to go out and buy all the DVD's one day...
It was a revolutionary show... I just wish Toei hadn't edited the frig outa it. If anyone has seen hte non- edited ones.. u know why. same with the subtitled. I think it adds to the plot.. they cut out a few key scens and every now and then u can just *tell* something was missed. especially the looks on some of their faces after a scene.. sometimes it doesnt explain it well.
As for the movies, they are un-edited and are totally diffrent from the show... the plots dont follow AT ALL and have alot of holes.
Other good anime u might wanna check out is the Patlabor movies, Ghost in the Shell, Macross Plus, and definately the Gundam serie if you want a deep plot. All those movies have some deep thinking involved, not for ppl who dont follow plot well. I think I even had to watch Patlabor 2 a second time to catch some stuff...-Vegeta

Agreed, the sub and unedited versions are a lot better. I saw a few spanish subtitled and japanese episodes and I figured that the US dubbed version was chopped up beyond belief...Originally posted by Vegeta

DBZ is better than Gundam.I'm a cowboy bebop fan,and Outlaw star is cool too.Tenchi is alright but most people watch it because of all the girls, one of the reasons we all watch anime. You ever noticed that most anime stars a bounty hunter?

DBZ is pretty cool. I use to watch the original DB when I was overseas. (spent 18 years in Asia) Gundam is a classic anime! Look how the spread of mecha anime follows the original Gundam. I also remember watching HOKUTONOKEN (Fists of the North Star)pretty religiously. OTOKOJUKU, YAMATO,MACROSS,MOSPEDA,DIRTY PAIR,CITY HUNTER, etc. I grew up watching anime (yes originally in JAPANESE!) I even watched more kiddy like anime - Doraemon, GEGEGENOKITARO, HATORIKUN, etc.
my two centsComment
