    Look at my Web Site

Hey guys, I have been working on my web site StrictDesigns.com for awhile now and it is almost finished. I do web site design and that is where I am marketing my self (sort of). Check it out and let me know what you guys think of it.

Well shouldn't this be over in Dealer forum if you are planning on marketing this?

Your mouseover of Contact in the HTML section is spelled wrong.

It's a little plain, which isn't always a bad thing, but you may want to fancy it up a little bit if you want to attract customers. Not too much, but enough so that they can say "Wow, this guy has some skills"

Well since its not got anything to do with Paintball nor is it ready for market... I realy have no choice but to leave it here in Friendly where almost anything goes as far as topics are concerned...for lack of any place better to put it!

its a start, but here are a few little pointers you may wish to consider:

<li>go with a text color that has better contrast against your blue background (i.e. white)</li>
<li>remain consistent, keep font styles and colors the same throughout the site</li>
<li>just a personal preference, but try to avoid excessive pop-ups like the plague</li>
<li>get some photos, screenshots, something graphical to break up all the text on your pages</li>
            <li>become one with your spellchecker</li>

            best of luck

I'm a webmaster of 2 years with a minimum of graphic design background, and am only beginning my journey toward creating eye-appealing sites. That being said, I will not comment on the "design" aspect of your site because I think the other AO'ers will have better input.

The only thing I can speak with authority on is your flash-- each of your text buttons optimally need to have a "HIT" keyframe that is the shape of a rectangle, so the user can click the buttons by putting their mouse in the general vicinity of the text, and not have to mouse over an actual letter to activate the button(this can get tricky).

Everyone has to start somewhere-- if you want to be a web designer, be a web designer, and take our constructive criticism as our way of helping you become a better designer.

Depending on where you are in life chances are there will be a class you can take to help you out too.. not to mention countless web sites with countless tutorials.

              Keep it up man!

it has absoluty nothing to do with paintball....

I just want to know what people like and dislike about. I started doing web design this past september. Considering what I know so far I am quite happy with what I have done so far. The site is far from finished, especialy the flash version. I just downloaded Flash MX two weeks ago and I did that much in about an hour. What would you guys change about it? What would catch your attention? Let me know so I know what is wrong with it. If there is anyone out there who has been doing web design for awhile a few pointers would be really appreciated. I can handle constructive critism as long as you do not totaly bash my site by saying it is the absoluty worst site you have ever seen and leave it at that. IF you give me a legitamate reason then ok I will try to fix it. I just need to know what people look for in a web site. I live out in the middle of no where and it is very hard for me to find people who want a web site let alone be able to afford it. So anything constructive you guys can tell me would be great. You have to remember though a web designer can not do all of the same things that a graphics artist can do on paper. For example the colors I choose I have to make sure that they look the same on all operation systems and broswers (or as many as I can get my hands on). Because one color in Internet Explorer may not be the same color in Netscape. Also I just learned Javascript last night and I have been teaching my self flash. The only formal training I have had in web design was an intro class I took last semester that tought me the basics of HTML (the rest I have to learn on my own) and it tought me some graphics design. I am also taking Graphics design classes and Computer Science classes so I can become a lot more proficiant in programing for the web. If you guys don't like it, good tell me why also. Don't just say do you want the truth or want us to lie. I want to know what you think of it, I already know what I think of it. I personaly like it but I did not build it for myself, I built it for people like you guys to look at it and say "I would like someone like this to build a web site for me" or "This person really knows what they are doing." So please let me know the truth no matter how harsh it is, it may upset me but I need to know what my target audiance thinks of it because it is people like you guys who will be looking at it someday if you ever start a business and want a web site or if you just want a place for you to place a photo album or just a personal home page where you guys can post information about your paintball team.

I have been making websites(notice I did not say designing) scince I was 11, now I am 15 and have been doing it for 4 and a half years, well I remember my first page it was a single paged site at fortunecity. And then I discovered frames(ahhh, back then frames was the bomb thing to do...) then people started designing more with tables, although harder to work with, they were much more apealing, I also tried to work with them... and now people are using flash and such, I attempted to make a flash site but the furthest I ever got was making an introduction with some fading and swirling text. I felt I didn't want to try to do something because a 15 second flash fade animation took me about an hour and I also tried and tried to figure out simple little things like how to insert links and play music or sounds but I could never figure this out in flash, so I just said forget it, deleted flash, and forgot about trying to work with tables, and just used frames, they are much easier to work with. So in your 6 or so months, you have surpassed my 4 years experience(but without lessons at all or classes, nor even a small tip from a designer). I fell that your site is great because I can't do any better, I would like to try but I just don't have the skills to do it. Well if you want to see what I have come to in 4 years look at my website in my sig. I have made much better sites for games and stuff but I made that one in like 10 minutes, ya my post had no point but oh well...
You smell like dookie... No really though.

Are you more interested in the design aspect (creative) or development (code) of working on the web? If you plan to go it alone for you entire web career, then by all means dabble in both. However, the more professional you become, the more you will see people secializing in one small aspect of the industry (being a professional Jack of all trades doesn't always work )

If you are serious about learning, read, play around with designs, hone skills, THEN attempt to sell yourself as a professional.

Feel free to send me an email if you have any questions about resources, tips, schools, ...
