    Computers....

    My monitor totally sucks!!!

If anyone can spefically tell my why my monitor's colors are faded (i.e. - its dark - reds look like black - all greens look one color - and an American flag looks black and white)
    Why!?!?!
Is it just simply the monitor itself?
    Is it the monitor cable?
    Is it something else?

CRTs have a known lifespan, especially the cheaper ones found on low end monitors. Find th manufacture date on the back of the monitor and report back with the manufacuter and model of the monitor.

If you wiggle the cable, do the colors change? If they do, it might be the cable.

Like somtimes it will "act" real good and stay that one color for a while. Somtimes it will flicker and sometimes it will just stay that one color. The monitor is a Gateway EV910.

Gateway usually uses not so good monitors. Monitors usually carry a nice warranty, sometimes up to three years. IF you look up the manufactured date on the monitor you can usually call and get a replacement.

Hrmmm... that isn't too old. I don't know if its covered by the standard gateway warranty, or if they have something special for monitors. You might want to give them a call and check.

                      call em up

they will replace it free, you got until july! hurry! it is covered under the warranty. i had an ev500 replaced 2 times in 3 years, no problem.one went permanent pincushion on me and the other the stabilizer went, so when you walked up to the computer, the picture would bounce around and the brightness would change. the ev monitors are hit or miss, some are ok some fry out, they arent the greatest by any means, just a basic monitor.gateway is aware of this im sure cuz they never gave me a hard time about replacing them. only catch is the one they send will probably be remanufactured.

I had a really old sony monitor... and it caught fire.

If it starts to malfunction to the point where it wont turn on, unplug it. Mine had been wierd for a while, but when I couldn't turn it on I just pushed the button a few times to see if it would work... it didn't, but I didn't unplug it and I think it overloaded a cap or something.

Anyway, your monitor probably isn't this screwed... as mine was like 7 years old and had soda spilled on it about 3 years ago. But I wouldn't feel right not telling someone.

I'd say, if you have the $, get a new one. If you don't have the $, just watch it carefully for signs of core meltdown

take a rock, throw it as hard as you can at the screen. If that dosent work, I don't know what will.
